I have always assumed that it was better for a EBF infant to have bowel movements every few days. I read that EBF infants didn't poop much because their bodies were so efficient there wasn't much waste. And in fact when DD was having a bad reaction she would have 3-4 bowel movements in one day (and they would be green and mucousy), and when she was not reacting she would have them usually 1 every 2 days. So if her bowel movements increased I usually saw that as a sign of a reaction (but it always came with mucous).
Recently however she has been having about 2 bowel movements a day (for at least the past week) but not always green and mucousy. I am trying to figure out if she is having a reaction to something. I know that ideally everyone would have bowel movements 1-2 times a day, but not sure if this applies to EBF babies. Also, we have been experimenting with solids for DD, although she has only had very small amounts maybe 1-2 times a week, so I don't know if this is affecting it.
So what exactly is ideal and normal for an EBF infant? And how does it change when they start solids? It's so frustrating trying to interpret every little thing that happens with her body!
