People are boycotting my brother's wedding ... because we don't vaccinate our children!!!!!

The title says it all, and I just needed to vent. I don't think my brother's fiancee likes us all that much, and she has apparently told her friends and family that we don't vaccinate our kids (most certainly as part of conversations where she goes on and on about what great parents we are ). They are getting married soon, and apparently some people with young children are refusing to come to their wedding -- because we will be there.

I'm basically left speechless. Thankfully my brother thinks they're idiots and supports our choice even if he doesn't 100% agree with it. I asked him what these people do at the grocery store? Library? Playground? Do they interview all those parents to make sure they vaccinated their children?

And FWIW, it's a black tie wedding. Dinner starts at 9 PM. My 3.5 yo dd1 is the flower girl, and will probably be put to bed in our hotel room shortly after she eats (her regular bedtime is 8:30!). It's not like the kids will be running around for hours swapping germs. And even if they were ... Seriously! What are the odds?!?!

I actually feel sorry for people who live with so much fear in their lives. I haven't done the math, but I'm guessing the odds are higher that they would get in a car crash on the way to the wedding than that my children would give their children a disease.

That's so ignorant. Aren't their vaccinated children supposed to be protected against anything your kids might be "carrying" anyway?

Maybe they don't really believe the vaccines work so well after all.

The willful ignorance is astounding.

My thoughts exactly . If anything I should be the one worrying about whether or not any of their recently vaxed children are shedding any viruses. But I'm not.

This ignorance astounds me.

Keep in mind that I was told to keep any recently vaccinated children away from my husband when he was in stage D cancer, so as not to further compromise his immune system. Ask any oncologist.

It is the child that is vaccinated that is carrying the disease, especially recently vaccinated, not the unvaxed.

It never seizes (sp?) to amaze me how absolutely ignorant people are :

I've never understood why parents who vaccinate are SO concerned with their children getting diseases from kids who aren't vaxed Kinda makes me wonder why the h eee double hockey sticks they vax at all

To heck with them, if they don't want to be there that's their problem. Just enjoy your brother's wedding and ignore them all.
They are dumb.

Wow, that is beyond stupid. Do they go in the basement every time it rains in case they get hit by lightening? Oh, maybe they are like Bubble Boy?

At least your brother thinks they are idiots too so it isn't causing a riff in your family.

Yuppers. It's a shame that so many of her friends won't be there.

Ugh! I hate that people think unvaxed kids are disease carriers. Uh, sorry dear, my little unvaxed kids are by far healthier then ANY other child that I know. They have only been sick 4 times in their LIFE! and that has been nothing more then a runny nose and they turning 3 in 2 months! :

Oh well, it's her loss not yours. Go, have a great time, and try to forget about the sheepies that think this way..

Ignorance at its best. As a PP said, they vaccinate for a reason. Are they then saying they doubt their reasoning or are they just that illogical? If their children are in danger of catching something, it's mass hysteria.

Talk about karma! Think about it: your soon to be SIL more than likely talked behind your back about what a "wonderful" parent you are and now it's coming back to bite her in the butt because those people won't attend her wedding. Hopefully she learned a little lesson in keeping her mouth shut.

Craziness!

We've vaxed all of our children so far but still the thought of not being around children that are unvaxed is stupid (sorry that sounds childish).I would not ever keep my kids away from anyone who's made that choice actually your children may be healtier than mine and I might be more worried about mine getting yours sick than yours mine.

I'm sorry people are treating you this way.
