Valkyrie

So I just went to watch the new Tom Cruise film 'Valkyrie'. But after 2 minutes I sat scratching my head as to why he would choose to play a German soldier, yet still have his American accent.

I do wish some effort would be put in to it. If that was Robert De Niro he would make the effort

Peace

I believe it was the director's decision. Many movies play like this. The characters don't speak their own language or pretend to have an accent of any kind. As I say, it's a decision the director makes.

I'm trying to imagine Tom Cruise with an eye patch AND a fake German accent!

Gee, the critics would love the movie even more then...:

Do other actors speak with German accents? Does David Thewlis, who plays Hitler, speak with an accent? It may be that Cruise just can't do an accent, so they decided it was best to drop it.

Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia speaks with a 'British' accent for her first few lines in Star Wars. It stank so she dropped it after that.
