i read the first one, and i have way too many other things on my list right now to read the rest. please, can someone tell me does Bella become a vampire? can someone give me the juiciest highlights from each book?

She becomes a vampire, AND has a baby.

Jacob imprints on the baby. Yuck, yuck, yuck. (The last book was so badly written that some people suggested it should be called "Breaking Down" instead of "Breaking Dawn."

I FINALLY finished Breaking Dawn (Breaking Down!) and ITA with A&A. I'm a really fast reader and it took me forever to get through it. It was just so boring and awful- but it was nice to have completion.

I liked it :

Jacob becomes a werewolf-like shapeshifter and falls HARD for Bella. Bella at one point seriously contemplates leaving Edward for Jacob. I think it had alot to do with having kids some day.

She doesn't leave him, married Edward and on the honeymoon gets pg. Her being pg with a 1/2 vamp pretty much kills her and Edward HAS to turn her in order for her to "live". Jacob "imprints" ( falls hardcore in love and she will be the only one for him no matter what) on the baby girl. Being 1/2 vamp baby girl's growth and maturity rate is really fast, basically she'll be 20 in like 7.5 years. So Jacob doesn't have to wait too long and Renesmee ( yes that is her name) is attached to him like she knows and understands it/already loves him.
At the end the Volturi, which you meet in book 2, come and bring just about their entire coven to destroy all the Forks Vamps b/c they think someone created a vampire out of a baby, which there is a law against.
But everything turns out all right in the end.Everyone lives happily ever after. Except for Leah

i'm glad i asked. i had been wondering about the jacob vs. edward business, from seeing references here and there.

i'd really like to have a sit down with the editor of those books...however, i was attracted to the doomed vampire-human romances (due to Buffy & Angel), so i was curious.

But, how do Bella and Edward have sex? Hasn't it been a constant thing throughout the book that they couldn't because his vamp powers would be too powerful for her mortal body (I cannot believe I just wrote that sentence)?

UGH, I can't believe she still dragged out the "love triangle" through book 4, doesn't it get way too old???

I knew there was a reason I stopped at #3

Although, I may read #4 just because I adore Jacob Black.

He was as careful as he could be and she still ended up all bruised from the sex. She loved it anyway and they continued having sex repeatedly until she realized she was pg.

IMO- that's a huge reason why this book is innapropriate for prepuescent children (or any teen you're not comfy having frank sexual discussions with.) The idea of being badly bruised but still liking it and wanting more isn't an idea I want in a young person's psyche without challenging. Both of my daughters have read the series and we've had plenty of frank discussions about these things.

I couldn't agree more!
My cousin's 11 year old dd was reading it the other day (she's read the whole series) and having just read "Breaking Dawn myself, I was horrified.
My cousin hasn't read any of the books, so she had no idea.
I don't consider myself a prude, but I don't think rough sex, and her excuses (Edward can't help being rough because of his nature, I don't mind the bruises, he loves me.) is appropriate for such young kids.

I also feel that the obsessive nature of their love is kind of creepy, even Jacob mentions that Edward is "like a drug" for her.

I think book #4 gave a really good close to the, well at the point it was not a triangle, it was Jacob pining away and moping b/c he could not have/she did not want him.

Although the Edward/Jacob relationship develops in a good way throughout the book. As in, they start to really like each other and trust each other. Its not so much a love triangle in book for as everyone coming to terms with the way things are over the course of the book and Jacob finding closure.
