How can I beautify DH's new Stereo system?

Hi - I hope this is the right forum for this question.
DH bought a Sony Ipod docking station with speakers for our kid's playroom. He wants to load it up with kid's music and classical. That's great for us but my issue is that the stereo is all black and very sleek looking. It is completely out of place in our playroom which has maple wood and soft colours (kind of Waldorfy decor).

How can I beautify this technology? I want to cover the speakers and the main base if I can with something. DH gave me the full go ahead to pretty it up but I'm not sure where to start. Is there wallpaper or anything I could put on the unit? I would appreciate any suggestions.

You couldn't just hide the whole contraption behind a nice carved maple screen? I'm trying to think of non-cheesy ideas and coming up short. If you want to use paper for covering or decoupage, there are some beautiful papers at scrapbooking shops. But yeah, I'd be tempted to hide it rather than prettify it. DH keeps his speakers under the desk, and we never even see 'em. You couldn't stow the main base in a cupboard (plugged in, like people do with their TVs)?

I wouldn't feel comfortable embellishing the actual stereo; I'd be afraid to mess up the components or render it unserviceable. Instead, I think hiding it is your best bet. The PP's idea for a pretty carved screen would be really nice.

You could put a picture frame in front of it, but that wouldn't allow for remote control, if that matters to you.

I have our little boombox on a counter behind some decorations and it's not noticeable.
