Curly Purly+ Longies question

For those of you who do the curly purly waist on your longies AND do the waistband short rows do you do short rows on the bum as well?

I started a soaker and then decided to make them longies. I've never done it before and am unsure of how to do it.

Anyone?

i've done 1 pair like that without short rows and the butt was too tight! so i'd recommend short rows in the bum too.

I'm on my 3rd iteration of longies like this, now. I just do the CP waistband all the way through the shortrows that are in that pattern (so, 3 sets of shortrows). Then I switch to the longies pattern I'm using and go by the rise measurement there to figure out how much longer I need to knit before knitting the gusset and splitting for the legs. Of course, I have no babe to try this out on; but the pair (ok, so then I'm on my 4th) I did for a friend has worked out fine according to her. I'm using it with the Sheepy Pants pattern.

Ok I'm ready to do some short rows per my pattern (picky pants). Only they aren't going to line up with the other ones. Anyone wanna help tweak my numbers for me? Please?

Sorry, I'm at work and my pattern is at home - but how many short rows are you putting in then? There are 3 in the Curly Purly. Did you not put those in and are adding them now? Or do you just like longies with all of the shortrows together at the bottom of the bum? (I don't think PP does that; I know I have another pattern that does, though.)

I did do the short rows in the waistband but would like them in the bum too. The picky pants pattern has 2 sets of them at 2 spots around the markers (like at 1 stitch before and 3 before on one set). I guess I can skip them but I'd like them. These are for a friend and the last pair had bum short rows and she said they were a perfect fit.

Hmmm . . . guess I didn't think about it like that since the waistband short rows are the only ones in the whole soaker - which covers the whole diaper (i.e. the bum). So, I figured that was good enough for longies! But, you've got me thinking; I'm about to put in my last set on the one I'm working on, but the Sheepy Pants pattern is written in the same gauge, so, I'll just stick with the hip markers for the Curly Purly.

What size are you knitting so I know what to look at to try and figure it out (for you and for me since I may do PP for the bottom of the next ones!).

I'm knitting a small. I used te 72 stitches for the small Curly Purly and then increased to 76 for the small picky pants.

Ok, I was knitting a nb size this weekend and just put the Picky Pants short rows in an inch down after the last Curly Purly short row. This was right before starting the gusset for me. I think another thing to consider is that if the rise ends up a litte bit longer if you decide to put in both sets of PP short rows (I just put in one), the mama can still fold down the waist band. Oh, and I used the numbers on the PP short rows since they are the same for all sizes AND the number of cast on stitches I had from CP was the same as the numbers for PP.

Hope that helps!

Oh, and I saw a LO in the small size I'd made this way - without the bum short rows - yesterday. Yeah, sure does fit like a second skin! LOL! He still looked adorable and the fit wasn't so outrageously tight that the stitches looked like they were pulling. I was just sorry I completely blanked on taking a picture! I do want the snug fit for my nb sizes, but for my smalls, I might, in addition to adding bum short rows, widen the hips.

I do the increases with short rows options on the picky pants. So yeah my cast on was originally the same but on my needles right now I have 76 stitches as opposed to 72.

Maybe then up the placement of the shortrows by 2 stitches on each side? Like, it the pattern says to turn 6 stitches before the marker, make it 4?

No, that's not my problem. My problem is my hip markers are different for both patterns.

Ok, in that case, I would go by the PP hip markers. Since the CP shortrows are in the ribbed waistband, they don't create the kind of extra room that the bum shortrows you're looking to get with the PP do. I would move my hip markers to match what PP instructs and go from there. Because I would think that you want your bum room to be created in the proportions/places that the pattern you've switched to dictates. And especially since the earlier ones aren't as visible, I would go that route. Does that help at all?

It does. I was originally going to do that but got paranoid that it was going to make the waistband fit funky by placing those short rows on the side or front or something. I'll try that.

Ok I've picked it back up and I'm about to frog it. I want/need to place my bottom short rows in the same area as the waistband ones. The back is longer so putting them in according to picky pants numbers makes one side longer. Can someone please help me out with the numbers? I'm sure I could figure it out (I need them placed within the same area as the CP ones but still have the right markers for my hips on the PP) but I'm seriously horrible with math and second guess myself and make it harder than it should be. I hate math.

Anyone? I've got my CP markers in place and have yet to do my increases. I really don't want to frog back. I want to make this work.

ETA: I got it figured out. I got my short rows in and am ready to start my gussets. I think I can get it figured out but mystarting marker is now technically center front. Oh wait! I just had a genius idea. Off to see if it works.

Good grief. These have given me more issues than they should. I won't be doing this set up again, that's for sure.

ETA(again ): I give up. This has gotten to be unbelievably stupid and frustrating. I frogged it. It would be a god-send if someone sat down and wrote out directions for using that waistband with various patterns (without giving away too much info about the purchase patterns obviously). I cannot be the only one incapable of doing this ^*$&^&$*&%^$ thing. :

Oh, I'm sorry this didn't work out! I never saw your last cry for help. You know, I think I'll try this with the next pair I knit and let you know how it goes.
