The company is also asking the U.S. Food & Drug Administration to expand the approval of Gardasil in women ages 27 to 45 years.
No mention that it actually INCREASES the risk of cancer in women who have already been exposed to HPV :

Despite questions surrounding its safety and cost-effectiveness, Merck still wants the uses of Gardasil expanded. According to The Wall Street Journal, Gardasil is a key product for Merck, which estimates sales this year of as much as $1.6 billion. But sales have slowed, down 4% in the third quarter compared to a year earlier. Merck’s crusade for expanded approval may be part of a strategy to lift these sagging sales.
$There ya go!$

Are we surprised??? soon they will move the vaccine into the infant schedule to catch everyone...

Even my pro-vaxxing MD sister is against Gardasil.

idk about vaccinating older women, but boys do need to be vaccinated for this because they are a viable vector that faces no fitness consequences. That means these strains of HPV can linger in the male population indefinitely, impeding any progress towards reduction in the female population. So there is very sturdy logic here backed up by LOTS of modeling studies.

though long term, you know the vax will have to be modified as other strains start becoming responsible for more of the cervical cancer cases. no one is ever completely protected.

the backbone of a long-term solution to all of this is educating kids about safe sex... too bad we don't have billions of dollars to do that!

I think plenty of studies have shown that regular pap smears are an excellent, very cost-effective way to prevent cervical cancer in women.

Just because boys can't get cervical cancer (by definition) does not mean they should have to be vax'ed because there are no consequences for them.

Maybe this will cause more people to begin to question vaccines. If they thought it was a little odd to be vaccinating against chicken pox, vaccinating boys against cervical cancer is totally out there.

my DS will also never has this vax.

I remember hearing about this a few years back. It was only a matter of time.......

100% disagree with this. This is as ludicrous as vaccinating little girls who are nowhere near sexually active. This vax SCREAMS profit driven to me.

I bet they have plans up their sleeve for adding this to the already crazy infant schedule too (sometime down the road... a few years maybe)

i want to say that people will wonder why in the heck they want to vaccinate boys for something that may cause cervical cancer but i doubt it will happen. i think it is more likely that people will think it is a good thing to vaccinate everyone so that no one else gets it and then no one else will get cervical cancer. now obviously it's not going to work like that at all... but as far as i can tell thats not really that important as long as it makes people feel better and the commercials are reassuring.

The money spent on creating and marketing this vaccine could better be used researching other cancer prevention and cures that are more dangerous.
Cervical cancer is one of the most treatable cancers there is.
How about advertising safe responsible sex, or advertising how important it is to get a regular pap smear. Even with the vaccine women have to do that anyway.

Well, hpv IS spread by both males and females. So, if this vax really worked as well as "they" say, it does make some sense as to giving it to males also.

Sorta like the rubella vax, no? Give it to the kid to protect others, not necessarily the kid

That being said, NO way in hell are my sons getting this.
