i read alot and have posted about this before.
ok, so it`s ok that my almost-3-year-old still has half of his foreskin "stuck". ok, i understand it`s normal but i would love to hear REAL stories about REAL kids.

at what age did your son`s foreskin "un-stick"?
i see there are kids that don`t until they hit puberty.

if i know all of this, why am i so nervous about my baby?? help!!!!!

He'll be 6 next month, and other than ballooning, shows no readiness for retraction at all.

My son was completely able to retract at the very young age of 5. But don't take that as a benchmark.

Here is what I sent my BIL when he asked me if it was normal if his 3 year old was unable to retract.

Only 50% of boys retract by age 10. Having portions that are still stuck while others are not is completely normal. You have nothing to worry about.

My 7 yr. old doesn't retract, completely normal. My 2 yr. old doesn't either but most people aren't worried that young.

my son is not retractable that I know of - he is 4.5 yrs.

My son appeared to be completely retractable by 2.5 - 3 yrs old. He's older now but I don't get down there to really inspect it but I've seen him retract when he pees and when he's playing in the tub. It looks completely loose now.

There polls online on this question here and here.

My son is 3.5 and he is not anywhere near to retract.

My 6 yods and soon to be 5 yo ds are both not retractable.

My 3 1/2 yr old partial retractable then at 4 he was more retractable then around near 4 1/2 he is becoming partial retractable again because in the tubby he would pull his foreskin back give himself a shake cover up now he just pulls part of his foreskin back and gives it a shake.

i know that's normal so I'm not worried because he's not complaining.

I have an almost 10 year old who I'm pretty sure isn't retractible (based on a conversation we had about a year ago) -- but then at some point it becomes a little weird to know too much about your child's penis (e.g. I have no idea if he "balloons" he didn't last time I watched him pee which was maybe 5 years ago).

I kind of assume that I'll never know when he's retractible, and that nature has developed a handy way of assuring that pre-teen/teenage boys play with themselves enough in the shower that it'll be pretty clean.

My four year old is partially retractable (stuck halfway, like the OP said). My older son was retractable by seven, but I don't know exactly when it happened. I just noticed at seven.

I honestly don't know what is up with his penis. I know it retracts some, because i've seen him playing iwth it in the tub, but I don't know how much or whatever, and I don't know when it started.

seriously, it just doesn't matter.

thank you thank you!!!
and thanks for making me laugh...amazing how, from about 4 or 5yo, every mother sais something like "from what he says", how they won`t let you see them! love it and you hace jut made me relax in less than 2 minutes. thank you.
oh, and i guess that it`s normal that he retracts it aaaaall day long?

DS1 became retractable at about 7 or 8, but DS2 was basically retractable at birth. He had a long overhang that gaped at the end (not the normal "anteater" look). It was a pain in the butt to clean poops when he was a baby.

My son is two and a half, and can expose about half the glans. Which he does every chance he gets - I think it's the novelty factor as much as anything else.

I had a friend once who was French. She called me up once kind of panic stricken because she had just noticed that her 9 month old didn't play with his penis much, and she was worried that it was a sign that he wasn't intelligent or something. I pointed out to her that it was the dead of winter and that everytime I saw him he had several layers of clothing "protecting" that particular body part, and that might be inhibiting him to some degree.

I'm not sure why I'm telling this story except to illustrate that we mamas can worry about everything, and that yes, playing with yourself is very normal for males -- of all ages as far as I can tell.

I can remeber being retractable as far back as age 7 or so. I don't have any kids yet (but I want to be a parent!) and when I do, should I have any sons, I won't worry when they become retractable. I know it's different for everyone.

He's almost 4 and like, 3/4 retractable? It's not something I check or really care about honestly.
