How to use olive oil on hair

I just bought some extra virgin olive oil to experiment with and while I found a lot of threads about using it on the skin, I couldn't find much on using it for hair. I'm interested in using it for a hair serum--instead of a product like Frizz Ease. Does anyone use it for frizz? How and how much do you use? What about using it for a hot oil treatment?

Are there any great threads or websites you recommend about using oils for beauty products?

I will answer my own question since no one else did! I use a drop or two and rub my hands together. I work from the bottom of my hair to a few inches from the roots. It works similarly to Frizz Ease. My best friend uses it on her daughters' hair after a bath, and all 3 of them have shinier, less frizzy hair.

Thanks for sharing your application technique!

I have found olive oil to be thick (and somewhat sticky) when used on hair.

I've read the jojoba oil is the closest plant oil to the body's own sebum. It's light and absorbs quickly on skin, and is easier for me to apply on hair (and get it on evenly) than olive oil.

I've tried olive oil on my daughter's hair and my hair. We are African American and our hair is thick with spiral curls. My daughter's hair is finer and I find that olive oil is too thick. We're now trying grapeseed oil particularly because it was suggested to be used on hair and grapeseed oil can be used as a natural preservative, so it won't turn or smell rancid in the hair over time.

I also add a couple of drops of essential oil to make the oil smell nice, along with tea tree oil as it is effective against bacterial and fungal growth. The grapseed oil leaves a tacky feel to the hair, so I think I'll try Ann-Marita's suggestion and try jojoba next!

Let me know how using the grapeseed oil works for you. I use it for body oil and have used it for scalp massage before showering. I am considering using it inmy hair now too, but I will wait until next weekend. I learned the hard way not to 'experament' with things on school nights. LOL
