I was going to say...

There's just no way my 3 yo would allow me to leave him in his room. He'd take it off the hinges long before the 9 hours was close to up. Though my SIL used to lock her son in his room, and he never escaped. He did take the chair rail off the wall once and stuck it in the ceiling fan...but hey, it's safer than co-sleeping, right?

I didn't pass judgment on this because for 1) he was with his father and 2) IIRC he was receiving therapies/treatment at the time and 3) his mother wasn't settled in NYC yet and i imagine that moving cross country, in the middle of a divorce, with a preemie - might have been a bit too much on EVERYONE involved.

ETA - it's sick about the CIO thing - i didnt judge over the moving at first w/o part

This is off-topic...but that is awful! I know a family that permanently lost 2 children thru CPS by locking them in their bedroom. Obviously there were other issues, but that's what triggered the removal.

How is that not abuse? It is shocking that CPS did not catch wind and investigate this, surely one mandated reporter in the NYC area was watching. A child being locked in his room for 9 hours crying is okay?! The sad things is because you say it was at night rather than the day people accept it. What if I said I left my 3yr old locked in the room for 9 hours during the day people just think its different, I dont get it. Can CPS investigate something like this? Or has it been brought to their attention? Maybe they will at least tell her its cruel.

How sad for that little boy.

Off topic, but... I am a lover of puns, and had to quote this.

the sad thing is that she calls herself a Christian, yet treats her child this way....amazing....

My fear with CPS involvement is that, given the location, New York CPS would be hesitant to get involved. Compared against co-sleeping, I think CPS would *agree* it's the right thing to do, as long as she checked on him to be sure he was safe and didn't actually *lock* him in there. After all, it *is* better than co-sleeping, right? At least he is in his own room!
