Soy allergic, do you eat soy lecithin or soy oil?

I have read that "individuals with soy allergy can safely eat soy lecithin and soy oil". Do you agree?

My LO reacted to soy sauce with the most mucousy diaper I have EVER seen (sorry if that is TMI) so I want to be really careful.

It's pretty much a crap shoot. Some are okay with those and some are not. Helpful, huh?

I wish things could just be simple!

I can do without it if I have to, and at this point I am making all my own food since it is impossible IMO to avoid allergens in processed foods. Even the simple ones with like two ingredients! But there are a few simple store-bought foods that I would like to add that have either soy lecithin or soy oil in them. Also, the butter substitute I am using has soy oil (smart balance light). He hasn't seemed to react to it so far, but I know that his greatest chance of recovery and out-growing this allergy is strict avoidance.

After my shopping trip last night, can I just say I HATE the packages that say "soy oil and/or canola oil and/or corn oil" Just pick one already! : I just wanted some dang wheat crackers to eat with my "safe" turkey for a quick snack and I could not find a single one that didn't have either soy or milk. Sorry, I just needed to vent about that. The food industry has come a long way in the last ten years when I started my life as a label reader, but they still have a ways to go.

Is he okay with gluten since that's in soy sauce as well.
From what I've seen, soy ALLERGY can sometimes do soy lecithin and soybean oil because they only react to the protein. But it seems that intolerance is reacting to more than just the protein, so you can react to more of it. My DS used to react to a children's chewable vitamin that had soybean oil in it (about the 8th ingredient so how much could have been in it).

We can't have any of it (non IgE)

When I used to react to soy I could not eat soy lecithin but I was fine with the oil. I also could not do soy sauce.
Same with peanuts. I can have peanut oil but nothing with the protein in it.
I think it depends on the individual though.

I assume he is ok with gluten because the reintroduction of wheat did not trigger symptoms.

Interesting. I have only dealt with IgE type allergies so I did not know that. So how do you know which it is (allergy vs intolerance)? Just trial and error?
