We don't have cable, but I think I'd like to be able to view things on the internet on my tv. I was given a couple of Web TV devices by a freecycler. Does anyone use this, and do you like it? Is there a device I could buy for my tv that can access our internet that does not require a subscription (ie, once you buy the thing, it's free?)

Bumping.
Dh tried to set up the Web TV last night, and it seems to be interfering with our dsl. It's dial up. He got booted off twice after entering all of his information
:, at which point he gave up. Maybe when our dsl was being used by our email? I don't really want to purchase their $25/mo isp to be able to use it, anyway, since we already have an isp.
What I really want to be able to do is log on to our own isp through the tv so we can watch downloads from Netflix, our library, and tv series that are available online. Surely other people do this? Help!

Well, I'm not sure this is what you're looking for but we just recently got the Roku box that allows viewing of Netflix on the television. Of course in order to watch Netflix through Roku you would need to have a Netflix subscription. Roku just recently added the ability to view movies and shows from Amazon but these are on a pay-per-view basis, not free. All that being said, we are very happy with the ease of use and picture quality on the Roku.
We have a friend who works for CNet and he recent got another box that allows the viewer to watch Hulu etc but he says it's not very user friendly. I'm not sure, but it might be the Sony Bravia. There are some reviews of various systems on CNet's website under Digital Media Receivers. HTH.

We have Netflix, but isn't the box about $100? To me, that would only be worth it if we could watch all web-based media on the tv.
This just seems the kind of things lots of people would want to do. Dh and I are so behind technology-wise, I just assumed it would be readily available.
If I moved my computer to the same room as the tv, could I hook it up that way? Get a cable from my pc or monitor to the tv?
