interviewing for WAH job

I just landed an in-person interview for a WAH (sewing) job - YAY! But now I'm stressing about what to wear. I've been a SAHM and WAHM for 8 years, and previous jobs have all been word of mouth, so I didn't really have to interview in this way. Before kids I was in a professional career and dressing the part was no problem then. I'm thinking a business suit would be way over the top, but my day to day mommy wear isn't going to cut it either. I have a tiny wardrobe, but could buy something cheap if needed.

What would you / do you wear for an interview that's not too business-y?

when I interviewed for my wah sewing job, my boss came to my house, so I wore a nice knit tee with a lace insert in the neck (a step up from a tee) and either jeans or black chinos (it's been a year so I can't recall exactly). I only work at home so it's only her to see me. I do try to dress a bit nicer when she's coming over (about once a week) but she's so unpredictable that she often sees me in the old knit pants and ratty tees that I wear around the studio

GOOD LUCK!!

Yikes, if she were coming here then I'd have to dress myself AND clean the house. After (IF!) I get the job I'll be more relaxed about what I wear, but I'm going to the fabric store/design showroom for the interview, so I'm thinking I need to at least 'match' what the sales people there where. I can't go on a secret mission to find out what that is b/c it's a small place and the interview is Friday, so chances are they'd remember me from the day before.

I was thinking nicer, dark jeans and a blouse, or a casual skirt and nicer t shirt, so I'm glad to hear jeans/tee is what you suggested.

I think if I were applying for a sewing job I would wear something I'd made.

I don't make clothing much, especially for myself...I do mostly home decor stuff, and that's what the job is.

I used to hire home seamstresses for my business, and still hire people for other jobs. No matter what, if someone has not put care into the way they look I will not hire them. Yes, a suit could be too much but it would still only speak to how much you care about getting the job. I would wear nice slacks or a nice, long skirt, and a blouse. If someone doesn't care enough to put the effort into getting the job, it is liekly they won't care about keeping it. Good luck! Home sewing is kind of a pia, not to discourage you. But we went through so many and they all burnt out after just a few months. This was sewing the same thing over and over again, though, I hope it is better for you!

update

So I stressed waaaayy too much for this 'interview'...it lasted all of three minutes. The woman handed me a price sheet, said look at it and if it was ok then she'd give me a sample to make. I looked at the prices, said ok, and she handed me a finished window treatment and a length of fabric and said "re-do it and bring it back".

So I brought it back today and she liked it and said she'd call when business picks up...

Anyway, to the interview I wore a brown knee length skirt, red & brown top - nicer than a tee but still casual, and a wool jacket left over from more professional days...and I felt over dressed for the three minute exchange.
