Vaccine Waiver Form Fee? - Page 2

Would I be able to type up a letter stating that we are choosing not to vax per religious beliefs, sign it and then just use that to send in? Or will I need to pick up an actual religious form from my health department? Because I think all three forms (religious, personal and medical) all require the $25 fee.

I also thought about saying something too, about declining meeting with the nurse because I won't pay for a service that I don't want. Maybe I should ask where it reads that it has to be signed by a nurse. I have to wait until Monday though.

Ok. We spoke with the director of our county and she wouldn't budge on the $25 fee. She gave excuse after excuse as to why we *have* to pay it. One, being that the nurse would have to sign it. Beyond that, she says that there is a lot to be done with paperwork if there is an outbreak; we told her that our kids aren't going to public school per se (but that it's K-12) and she said we'd still have to pay it. No way around it.

I'm pretty upset. I just don't want to pay it. As of right now I am just taking this as a sign that we aren't supposed to do K-12, unless we can find away around this (but I just don't see how...) It may just be a measly twenty-five dollars to some, but to me it feels more like strong-arming. Pay the twenty-five dollars, or vaccinate, or your child doesn't get educated.

We'll just stay the course, I suppose and continue with the plan of homeschooling and we just won't use government funded curriculums (what a bummer!) unless I can come up with something else...does anyone have any ideas?

K-12 says they have their own form, that I can download when I apply that is free. So I'm going with that

That being said, I wish something could be done for all of the other parents who choose not to vaccinate so that they don't have to pay the fee for the form.

It's ridiculous. I wonder how exactly, legally, they can get away with this crap?

Let me know what you guys know! Thanks!!
I live in Utah and have filled out wavers for 5 kids (this year I did 2 in Aug) I have never been charged any fee.

We were told that as of recently, that all counties in Utah are doing it, including where you are located. She said it hasn't always been that way but the fee is something new. I haven't called other counties to verify...but maybe the fee is new as of 2009?

Southern Utah here. The fee was new as of the summer before last. It's outrageous and others have persued legal action. Apparently it dead ended, because I haven't heard anything new about it. I don't really see any obvious way around it, unless someone would do some major self educating, and then start a petition, have thousands of Utah moms sign it, and then present it in order to get it changed.

They do give you a nice little awkward lecture, too. And some very odd "you neglectful mother" looks. Why do they charge? Probably as some punishment because you're choosing to do something they think is extremely dangerous. And because other parents have to pay for vaccines, so therefore you should chip in, too, and not get off so easy.

oh this is annoying. I'm in Utah. Just a warning if you are going with the religious exemption, another MDC poster said that they would not let her get the exemption until she brought in a signed letter or other proof from her local church saying she was a member. Utah finds the loop holes. My son is 8 months and I'm so scared that by the time he is ready for school I will have no options.
