So I bought this new brush...

After reading these threads and losing my hairbrush I decided to get a Boar's bristle brush. So it's 100% boars bristle and it will not go through my hair. I have straight hair (although it tends to be a bit wavy if I don't blow it dry) and it is quite long and thick.

I have now found my old hairbrush (which I think has plastic bristles) so I'm using that to make sure I have no tangles and then trying to use the boar bristle one to maybe spread the oils in my hair...but honestly the boars bristles seem to make my hair static and dry...

Any suggestions?

Also, my DS has no idea how my hairbrush ended up inside his rain boot...

Some bbb (boar bristle brush) are softer & won't get all the way in to your hair & just skim the surface & others will, sounds like you've got a skimming one. I have 3 & only 1 really gets in to my hair & the other 2 skim. The one that really gets in my hair I picked up at Target. Not sure if you can return the other bbb & get another style or not, but if you can't I do like having one for getting in my hair & one for skimming. Also if it does get in your hair, but not all the way you could brush from the underside as well as the outside & that should cover all of your hair.

As for the static I just put a drop of oil on my hand & rub in on to both palms & then smooth them over the lower 1/2 of my hair (the part that gets staticy while my brush is new. I also brush my hair right before I am going to wash it & it's at it's most oily so I get the oils on the brush, after doing that for a month or 2 the static is pretty much gone.

You can try a wooden bristle brush, it acts much the same as a boar brush for spreading the oils through the hair, but gets through thick hair better.

Is your brush flat or is a half-round brush? That can make a difference in how it goes through thicker hair. A half-round brush, for me, always worked better as I have thick, wavy hair.

Thanks Mamas!

The bbb i bought is from Target and it's a flat one so I'm guessing that it's the "skimming" kind. I will probably keep using my plastic one to get the tangles out (until I find a wooden one) and I'll do the thing with the olive oil to tame the static...and I'll try to brush extra on oily days!

What do you do with a bbb that is full of oils and gunk? I've tried washing mine, but it just doesn't get clean.

Who made it? I have a Conair one that is 100% bbb that I got from Target for maybe $5? that gets through my hair (and I have very wavy hair).

I use a shampoo bar on my hair (J.R. Liggetts), so I just use that soap, a comb and a sink full of warm water to clean my bbb. Works great!
