Sticks and Stones

How do you keep your kids from getting hurt or hurting each other with the sticks and stones? My boys are very rowdy, and these just turn into weapons. Also how do you address the dangers of running with sticks? Thanks!

Sticks have never really been a problem with ds... one Waldorf-y thing I have heard is when the stick play gets too rough, tell the boys: "Now the sticks are going to rest". also: "Sticks only hit sticks".

Rocks, on the other hand... they live on the ground and are only to be thrown into a lake, or at a tree, never toward anyone...

I guess somehow even though ds is a rather rough-and-tumble little fellow with his playmates, and certainly immersed in nature, we've never really had a particular problem...
