Birth Story
Written for her (to explain tense)
So as you know we were planning all along to have you here at home. There were only a few people who knew that was our plan. It leaves less to argue about!
Last night, your Daddy and I were watching a movie (Step Brothers, pretty funny!) At about 9:30 I started to notice I was having some contractions. Nothing really impressive by any means. About an hour later I was still having them so I told your Dad but was SURE it wasn’t labor. For the record (and the next baby HAHAHA) this is EXACTLY what happened with your brother! Dad went to bed and I tried. The contractions were getting stronger throughout the night. At about 7:00 AM I called Pam (our midwife) to tell her things were progressing. I was having contractions about every 7 minutes. Things were getting rough and I thought that this may be it so I called my friend Kyle to see if she could help out with your brother. She called and found someone to cover for her for work and I told her I would call when we needed her. When she called it woke up Daddy so he came downstairs to see what was up.
I was getting stronger and stronger contractions once Daddy came down. It seems like in a matter of minutes I went from 7 minutes apart to 2-3 minutes apart. Daddy called Pam and told her and said he thought she needed to come at that point. I think this was about 8:30 AM. Kyle showed up a little later (about 8:45) which was great as your brother was up and eating breakfast.
Daddy was getting BB breakfast and Kyle came in. She went up to see them while I was breathing through some contractions. I kept saying all morning “Big Baby Hugs” and “Open” over and over trying to get myself through the contractions. I had been having a few contractions laying down cause I had been sick and was really tired! Then all of the sudden I HAD to get up and had another contraction as I was crossing the room. I held onto the couch and my water broke. I must have called for Daddy (but I don’t’ really remember) as he came right down. I dashed into the bathroom and sat down only to yell “The baby is coming!” Your Dad thought I just meant pressure but looked and there was the head! He yelled for Kyle to come help as he washed his hands and within minutes THERE YOU WERE! You were born into your Daddy’s hands at about 9:20 AM. The cord was wrapped loosely around your neck and Dad instinctively and easily took it off. It has got to be the MOST amazing think I have ever seen. The way nature takes over. Something told me at the moment to get up, so I did. It directed me where I needed to go.
So there I was…yes you were born in the bathroom with me on the toilet sorry to say but it was just the way things happened. We got some towels out of the laundry room to wrap you up and waited for Pam and Amy to get here. They helped clean everything up downstairs and got us into bed and all hooked up.
I guess I should add the stats now. You are a little girl with no name as of yet. You weighed in at 9 lbs. 4 oz. and 21 inches long. Born at 9:20 AM on January 8, 2009. You are beautiful and amazing and loved by us all! Your brother is a little skeptical of you but you got him some really cool trains so I think he's over that! I am amazed at how my body did it's job so amazingly well and instinctually. Your Dad...His face when he tells people he caught you is so cute. He is so proud of himself (as he should be).
