i was reading how vinyl shower curtains release i think it was about 108 toxic fumes into the air a month! so i'm think i need a new shower curtain anyways what else can i get besides vinyl and cloth? my mom had a cloth one but i stayed wet a long time which lead to mildewing problem.

I'm not sure, but I think most of the nylon shower curtains out there are treated now with antibacterial/antimolding agents. I don't use them. They smell like chlorine or chemicals to me when they get wet.

We have cotten duck shower curtains. You toss them in the washer every now and then to wash them.

In one bathroom it is working fine. In the other, where we have always had a mold problem, not so fine.

But we are remodelling that problem bathroom this spring and hopefully will get rid of the mold then.

I got our shower curtains from Vermont Country Store.

I guess maybe you could get untreated nylon at a fabric store and make your own?

I bought a great non-vinyl one at Target, I want to say its made of polyethylene, but I'm not 100% sure. It did not say that it was treated with any antibasterial agents.

Yeah, it's still plastic but. . . . it does not smell and the water flows off of it so there is not a mold issue. It was less than $20, lots of style choices and I have had it a year and it is very durable in a high use area.

Do you own your home? We got tired of stinky shower curtains and mildew problems and installed glass shower doors. It cost a few hundred dollars with installation but we love them and they'll last forever (barring breakage).

We have a plain white nylon one. I toss it in the washer periodically to clean it. It's light and dry pretty fast. It's more durable than vinyl as well. I don't worry too much about kids pulling it.

I always hated those nylon shower curtain but I found the fabric ones on Amazon. You can wash them easily in the machine without any trouble. Here is the link:

Wow, that's really cheap! I may try that in the future. I have a white cotton canvas shower curtain that I've been using for over 15 years. I love it and was thinking of getting another one for a second bathroom, but they are quite a bit more expensive. I may have to try that polyester one instead. Thanks for the link!

bed, bath and beyond and walmart both have one made of EVA (i think). its a "safer" plastic. i got mine at walmart before i started my boycott and it was only about $6.

Just plain old cotton. I buy them from Target, just the ones that you would normally use as an "outer" curtain. Throw it in the wash now and then. I love it, would never go back to plastic ( and I don't think my DH would let me anyways, he loves it too).

I also have a nylon liner and cotton (decorative) outer. I take them down to wash them once a month or so.

I used to have a hemp one, but after many struggles with mildew, I got rid of it and switched to this system.

I have a nylon fabric curtain that I use a liner and a cotton fabric decorative outer curtain. The nylon curtain is water-proof and doesn't leak. I wash the curtains about every month - on hot with a tiny amount of borax. I've never had any problem with mildew using these cloth curtains. When I used vinyl curtains, years ago, I was always battling with mildew. I would never go back to plastic. HTH.

We have a fabric curtain liner from Target and we love it - every few months I throw it in the washer and it comes out great.

I have a white nylon one (like you find in hotels) and I've had it one year now, no mold! You can throw it in the wash if needed, but so far it's been just fine. Looks brand new.

I got a lovely polyester one from Lowes, very heavy. It's been up almost 4 months with no sign it needs washing. And we don't have good bathroom ventilation (and in the humid south, to boot).

I really like our nylon one from Target. It's great, dries quickly. I haven't washed it in months : and it still looks like the day I bought it.
