Please tell your husband that this is just a stupid FICTIONAL show ROUGHLY based on real-life situations.

I never watch the show, and now I probably never will!!

I cannot believe he just gave him the shot without the mothers consent.. NOT okay!

and the ending
I turned it off as soon as they injected the kid against the Mom's consent. They even tried to hide it from her, he just went up to the kid and grrrrr. If this were real life that doc would be sued out the a$$.

All the make-believe show told me is that doctors are now too incompetant to handle measles.
It was just one big commercial with a little sex thrown in.

So sad, infuriating, and many other words that I am to angry to name.
Ditto all this. :

Even if Cooper thought that it was medically necessary, etc. wouldn't he have to get a court order to go against the mother's wishes like that? She threatened to sue if anything happened. Screw that. I'd sue him anyway.

I have liked a lot of this show, but it's just getting more and more ridiculous. I think I'll be removing the series from my DVR schedule. I won't be missing anything.

That's what was bugging me!!! I'm sitting here, like, call CPS? Uh, vaccinating now isn't going to help if he's already exposed.

Or is it? Am I confused?

My blood was boiling while I was watching this. I kept waiting for them to redeem this mess, hoping they would send a hero/heroin in who would save the day and draw respect for mom's decision...but alas they didn't. Killing the little boy in the end and having the mom "repent" and state "I was only trying to protect him" really sealed the stereotypes out there. Thanks, ABC.

I stopped watching Private Practice after the episode with the married couple who turned out to be half sibs (both had donor insemination fathers, the same one apparently)...the way the "doctors" handled it was soooo unprofessional, and so full of misinformation (like, they said they wouldnt be able to adopt because any doctor they saw would have to do testing and would find out they were half sibs and then no agency would allow it), they said that their marriage wouldnt be valid (i really highly doubt this is true from a legal standpoint)...etc etc. They made it seem like any child they would have together would be some sort of monster, which also isnt true. I just felt so bad for that couple! So i decided that while yes, these shows are fictional, there should be SOME semblance of reality to make them believable and this show just doesnt have it.

And that sucks cuz i like all the actors in it (and have a bit of a crush on the one playing cooper ever since he was a baddie on Prison Break)

As soon as Cooper said measles I started getting angry...then as the show progressed I was yelling at the TV until my dh looked up from his homework and asked why I was still watching it.
At one point I stood up, threw the remote at the television and yelled "My head is going to explode!!!!!!"

When Cooper shot that vax into the youngest boy without permission dh yelled about suing them. My head literally did explode.
I loved this show. But now I have grudges against every character (except maybe Violet - didn't she say something like "It's the parents decision"?). I don't know if I will ever watch it again.

Also, I have no clue about this "we have 24 hours to vax all the unvaxed, exposed people before they too get the measles" business. Is this correct information??

I had high hopes in the beginning, b/c Pete said that too, and even Cooper said it should be a parents choice, although he thought everyone should be fully vaxxed.

I keep trying to post in support of the non-vaxers on abc and it won't let me stay signed in. I feel like they're blocking people from signing in or something... Someone said Paul Offit was behind this episode.
This episode made me livid! All I wanted to do was just through the screen and start kicking some booty!
I was going to ask who Paul Offit is, but I won't be coming back to this thread to find the answer and I won't put any more energy into this by googling him.

I just need to say this and then leave it alone because my angry mood created by this is affecting my morning with my children.

1) There is such a miniscule chance that this was not in direct retaliation to the recent Jenny McCarthy exposure. They picked the disease (a harmless enough disease in a well-cared for child with good medical attention) that is purported to be prevented (I say purported since vaccines are not 100% effective) by the vaccine she says led to the autism in her child. The chances that this was just a happy happenstance are negligible.

2) It's so frustrating that in all of these shows the non-vaxing parents are shown as paranoid, uneducated or both. I remember in the House episode, the young mother was not getting the vaxes to 'stick it to the man'. I'm not the kind of parent who would deny necessary medical attention to my child to stop the drug companies from making money. In this episode, the mother was so uneducated it was painful. When I was researching vaccinations, I didn't take the 'how dangerous are they' approach first - that was second. The *first* thing I did was read about the diseases they were being vaccinated for and how dangerous they really were. Then for the ones that were scary and dangerous, I researched the vaccines and the likelihood of getting the disease in our current living situation. If I went to a doctor with a child presenting with measles and he tried to feed me full of that paranoid crap, I'd take him to another doctor who would just treat the frickin' measles!

3) The whole basis of this show is that it's a family friendly, holistic type practice. The fact that the holistic doctor, Pete, didn't have some basic knowledge about this (or for that matter that the PEDIATRICIAN didn't have some basic knowledge about this) is disturbing. The economy must really have hit ABC hard for them to lose their good writers and the doctors and specialists they hire just to help them not make such obvious (to an educated person) gaffes. Or they were paid a lot to look the other way.

I need to walk away now. No tv show is worth the frustration bleeding over into my relationship with my children.

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. I was BEYOND upset and angry last night. I felt sick to my stomach. I watch this show every week. It used to be good, but all of a sudden they do a "C-section or the baby is going to die" episode and THIS one!!!! What is going on? I couldn't believe the outright mis-information that was given! And the assault???? Did you see the female doc HOLDING the mother back while he did that???? I would be a RICH lady if that happened to my family, autism or not! And I can't believe no one countered the whole "it's child abuse- call CPS!" thing. I was appalled at the whole thing. I don't know if I can watch this show anymore. (It's not like I used this show for medical info, I just like the drama).

Ugh ugh ugh this show made me so angry!
As soon as I saw the little boy with autism and then the mom say they went to Switzerland, I knew what the (awful awful) storyline would be. It really did feel like propaganda for the CDC and AAP (what with the direct quotes and all).

As far as vaxing against parent's wishes, it happened to a friend of mine and also (sortof) to me. The friend told her doctor what shots she wanted and those she didn't, he agreed, and then came back in and did all the shots anyway before she realized what was going on (I guess some were combo shots so she didn't know how many he was getting...I'm not exactly sure). For us, we had told the ped at a previous visit that we wanted to delay Pc since she was already having two vaxes at that visit. He gave her the oral one, then came in with two shots ~ we told him we didn't want the Pc but he told us he had to give it to her "since he'd already mixed it" ~ we had a little white coat syndrome and didn't stop him. Since then we've switched peds (after a confrontation in which he told us we had to give him a reason for delaying the MMR, and then countering all of our reasons with such strong arguments as "that's not true" and "I don't know who this internet doctor "Dr. Sears" is" ~ FWIW we did walk out without having the MMR, but haven't been back to him since).

Ugh, sorry for the hijack.

I did catch on the show, though, that the older kid didn't have the MMR until he was 2 ~ I wonder if they were insinuating that she had already delayed the shot, or if they just had their info wrong. One of my docs reasons for wanting to give the MMR was that 1 is the age at which autism begins to become prevalent, so obviously it's not the shot that contributes to it.

I would love a recommendation for a good one.

I too was absolutely discussed by the episode.
