I am 41w4d today. I went in for a Biophysical yesterday. Everything looked great except the tech didn't see the baby take a practice breath. I think she waited about 10 minutes (i didn't know they were supposed to give it 30 min.), then she told me I needed to induced. I started sobbing and one of my midwives walked in. She was very insensitive and matter a fact about the situation. She then explained that they usually wait 30 min. on the biophysical and they probably would have seen the baby take a breath had they waited, but since the baby is measuring 8 lb. 14 oz. they need to induce. I felt completely bullied and terrified. She said I needed to go to the hospital at 8pm for Cervidil. She checked my cervix and said she couldn't reach it (last week I was 1cm. and 70% effaced last week). I left the office completely devastated. I ended up talking to another midwife in the practice later in the day and she asked me if I wanted to wait a few more days and if I would be willing to do the Cervidil on Sunday or Monday. I was so relieved that I said yes. So here's my question: I'm going back in tomorrow for another biophysical. This time I will make sure the tech waits the 30 min. (if necessary). A nurse friend of mine said that if the baby doesn't take a practice breath in the 30 min., I can ask for a non-stress test. Does anyone have any experience with this? I don't want to get bullied again!
I'm also hoping the midwife is able to sweep my membranes and I'm considering doing castor oil or blue/black cohosh tomorrow. I had acupuncture and reflexology today and I've been cramping all day.
TIA!!!

Just be very matter-of-fact and tell them you want 30 minutes. The non-stress test is easy; my MW was very laid-back about it. We couldn't've "seen" the baby take a practice breath because she didn't use the U/S, but she was watching the heart rate tracings.
