I posted this in December as well.
I am 41w5d today. I went in for a Biophysical on Wed. Everything was going great until the tech didn't see the baby take a practice breath. I think she waited about 10 minutes (i didn't know they were supposed to give it 30 min.), then she told me I needed to be induced. I started sobbing and one of my midwives walked in. She was very insensitive and matter a fact about the situation. She then explained that they usually wait 30 min. on the biophysical and they probably would have seen the baby take a breath had they waited, but since the baby is measuring 8 lb. 14 oz. they need to induce. I felt completely bullied and terrified. I think I would have fought more had my DH not been there, but he believes the practitioner knows best and we should listen to them. She said I needed to go to the hospital at 8pm for Cervidil. She checked my cervix and said she couldn't reach it (last week I was 1cm. and 70% effaced). I left the office completely devastated. I ended up talking to another midwife in the practice later in the day and she asked me if I wanted to wait a few more days and if I would be willing to do the Cervidil on Sunday or Monday (if I don't go into labor on my own before then). I was so relieved that I said yes. So here's my question: I'm going back in today for another biophysical. This time I will make sure the tech waits the 30 min. (if necessary). A nurse friend of mine said that if the baby doesn't take a practice breath in the 30 min., I can ask for a non-stress test. Does anyone have any experience with this? I don't want to get bullied again!
I feel like things are starting to happen. I've had prodromal labor for the past couple weeks and yesterday I felt menstrual cramps with some strong and painful pressure on my cervix that lasted a minute each time. I also had loose BMs all day.
I'm hoping the midwife is able to sweep my membranes and I'm considering doing castor oil or blue/black cohosh today/tomorrow. I had acupuncture and reflexology yesterday.
Thanks in advance!
