MMR article ... is it true?

Can anyone find a point to pick with this article?

http://www.ajc.com/search/content/op...lyed_1009.html

What I found interesting was that in 1959 there were 4 million cases of measles, and 385 deaths. (fatality rate: about 1 in 10,000)

Then, in order to quell fears about the MMR vaccine, they claim it causes febrile seizures in about three out of 10,000 (bad news) but not ONE death (good news). I'm not sure whether to be worried that the risk of a febrile seizure from the vax is 3 times higher than the risk of dying from getting measles, or to be relieved that the death rate is 0... or is it really? Does this seem a little far fetched that not ONE death has resulted from MMR since..... (1979 is it?)

(Of course, they never acknowledge the stats on mumps or rubella in the article at all)

Those more knowledgable on this, I'd love to have your input on this article. Thank you in advance.

The no deaths - thats none PROVEN. Like all the gardasil articles that have come out - you can't prove it was the vaccine.

I love how he says I don't vaccinate cause of fears of autism. Actually, on the list of reasons why I don't vaccinate autism is probably #10. Like there are no other reasons to avoid the vaccine? If kids have allergic reactions from them hmmm maybe that would be a reason. Or how about its a live virus vaccine and I want my kids to be around my immunocompromised grandparents.

And pretty sad that back in 1959 1 in 10,000 died from measles but in 2000 it was 1 in 86.

The article is very vague and one sided but here I go -

Every few hours a nurse opens the oxygen tent and gives me a shot. It hurts.
What the heck for?

Quote:
But more than four million children got measles in the United States in that year and 385 died.
Did they also get a shot every few hours?

Most Americans don’t remember those days.
I and dh had measles several years before that. My whole class had it and dh was sent to a neighbor where the kids had it, so that he would get the infection and get it over with. No doctor was consulted because it was a 'natural childhood disease'.
All three of our kids had measles in 1965. None were taken to a doctor. Nothing happened.
I happen to remember very well.

In 1959 basically everyone had measles. So that would be 2,000,000 kids a year. And as recorded, 385 died.

In 2000 there were 86 kids with measles (that they know of) and 1 died.

2008 there were 131 cases. How many deaths? Obviously NONE!

This is not just shameful. It’s scandalous.
Really?

Meanwhile, more than 20 epidemiologic studies have reported no association between the MMR vaccine and autism spectrum disorders, including one published last month.
Why so many? One couldn't prove it? Each one defends something else and there is always another study to point to when one does not satisfy you. It is a gimmick imo.

Measles is not just a charming appearance of red spots on a two-year old’s stomach.
No, it is a superb immune building childhood illness that may prevent asthma, allergies, cancer and much more.

Recent reviews from Health Canada and Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization compared the effects of measles to the side effects of the MMR vaccine.
Here we go...

John Kiely, a retired research epidemiologist for the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics, is American editor of the medical journal Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology.
I wonder how many patents on vaccines he holds and how much money he makes of each one very time a child is injected with that crap.

Of course measles is much more dangerous than vax. You didn't know that? I'll tell you why.....drum roll, please.....because measles is deadly and there are no side effects to the vax. That's why. All those people with supposedly vax damaged kids are crazy. All the VAERS reports are lies, parents just want money. And all the people whose kids got measles after having MMR must be delusional because vax's are 100% safe and effective.

The doctor's stats on measles and the MMR vaccine are off.

Pneumonia 1-6% of cases - based on statistics on an outbreak from 1988-1992 in which the highest incidence was amongst those under 12 months, and over half were under 5 years of age. Measles is more severe in infants, young children and adults, and milder in school-age children (around ages 5-15 years). Its not the real risk a school-age child faces if they are not given anti-pyretics. Also, at least 1/3 of these children lived in low-income Hispanic and black communities in California. To the authors of a study looking at this outbreak the rate of serious complications and deaths were "remarkable" compared to other developed nations.

Encephalitis occurring in 1 in 1,000 cases - I'm doubtful of this, between the years 2002-2007, among children 5-14 years of age, the rate of encephalitis ranged from 1 in 2,500 to 1 in 7,700 in Western Europe.

One to 10 deaths for every 10,000 measles cases - More likely the 1 in 10,000 is correct for school-age children, it was the rate in 1954 according to a study cited by the IOM.

Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis - Some studies show MMR does not prevent this.

Seizures in about three out of 10,000 - no, 1 in 1,000 children according to the package insert

Temporary low platelet count in about three per 100,000 patients - wrong, 1 in 15,000 children according to the CDC

One in 1 million have an easily treated anaphylactic reaction - I don't know about it being "easily treated" and this is also false, the risk is 1 in 500,000 children.

Also, Cochrane also concluded that safety studies for the MMR were inadequate.

Measles notifications in the UK from 1940 - 2007

http://www.hpa.org.uk/webw/HPAweb&HP...=1191942172799

Deaths rates from measles were going down long before the vaccine was brought on the market -

1940 - .20%

1945 - .16%

1950 - .06%

1955 - .25%

1967 (yr before vax) .02%

2007 (since the vax) .27%

I don't see where the MMR vaccine saved any kids.

Also of concern is that there are no accurate statistics on the numbers of serious adverse reactions to the MMR vaccine.

And no one can determine if the childhood infections of measles is in fact being replaced by chronic conditions such as juv. diabetes, juv. arthritis, juv. cancer, autism, neurological damage, epilepsy, etc. etc. etc.
