Nov '08 DDC Kitchen Table - Page 3

Hello all! I've been enjoying reading all of the news about the babe and how they are making their presence felt in your families.

Just came back from the ped and Isabelle is 14lb 5oz and 25 inches at 10 weeks. I guess that is the 95th percentile for weight and off the chart for height! I am 5ft 8in though and DH is 6ft so I'm sure she'll be tall. Its always a nice confirmation that all is well with BF to see good growth, especially since we had alot of trouble with BF in the begining.

On a personal note, DH and I STILL have not DTD- too uncomfortable plus the facts that I have zero sex drive and what with the huge leaky boobs and flabby body I feel like I am living in a strangers body! I will be so glad when I feel like myself again. I'm trying not to dwell on it too much....

I think I might have thrush........ :
Ugh, Teffer, get on the thrush quick. I'm sure you know, but cut out sugar (even fruits and fruit juices), go light on bready stuff, and try GSE... both swabbing nips with it and taking it internally. If that doesn't get it after a few days, do gentian violet. I've dealt with thrush with two babies (my second and this one) and the cutting out sugar and doing GSE caught it this time around. The first time around with my second baby we struggled for MONTHS before finally doing gentian violet, but by that time it was so systemtic that I had to do several rounds of gv.

Went to the ped today, Eve is 12 weeks and 13 lbs 14 oz, and over 100th percentile for height. The ped actually said that she almost seemed too lean, but I don't think so. I'm 6' and my DH is 6'6"... our kids are long and lean kids!! I've never had a chubby baby. They just don't come out that way and they don't grow that way.

Eve sleeps awesome at night (like 4-6 hour stretches) but naps very little during the day. She totally catnaps. Sometimes I can convince her to nap for a couple hours, but that's rare and it takes a lot of work, and some getting her back down.

Good to hear how you all are. Nerdy, I second the suggestion about getting some walks in. It helps me a lot when I'm feeling cooped up, bored, emotional, etc.

With K I had horrific thrush. I basically did everything in Dr. Newman's protocol to kill it, and then went back and did another round of GSE just to be safe. It turned out I'd had systemic yeast for years, thanks to the Pill, and I had previously had other health concerns that nearly killed me from the yeast. We're doing probiotics (threelac) for me and Nora and APNO with sposie pads. I ruined a pair of hempies that I love because I was wearing them and leaking this weekend when I started to notice the burn. (sigh) I only had two pairs of those too!

So what happens if you don't treat cradle cap? I'm very anti-soap, so my usual method of coconut oil and then shampoo is sort of out unless there are dire consequences. K never had cradle cap until just a few weeks ago and it doesn't seem to bother N....

Also, my new snugride carseat came today and the stupid thing is nearly a year old. I got on the phone ASAP to complain and they are sending me a prepaid return label. I was ticked because I ordered it online to prevent having to go out in the snow to buy a new seat for N and now I have to anyway. To add insult to injury, I'm gonna have to truck that stupid Combi with me when I go! ARGH!

Charlie is 12 weeks on Friday. He's right around 15.5 pounds. Huge for a preemie!

I stopped pumping last Thursday. I've had some mixed emotions about it, but mostly I feel relief. When he nursed, he couldn't take a full meal, so I still had to pump and give him a bottle. My supply was not keeping up (I'm a BFAR mom).

He's so incredibly smart, figuring things out, enjoying his family. We all really love him.

School started back up a couple weeks ago. I'm enjoying learning to be an RT, but those 12 hour shifts are killer.

The libido is back at around a 2 out of 10. Once my BFing hormones are gone, it'll probably be back close to full force (except I'm tired because Charlie sleeps 3-5 hours at a stretch at night, so it probably won't be 100%).

I think I'm a little depressed, too. I've got some Wellbutrin in there, considering taking it. I've been such a bear!

Good to see you Nerdy!

for all of us struggling with depression.

Oh good, I'm glad to see this thread again! I'm so impressed with everyone's big chunky babies! Good work mamas

Size Meadow is still tiny, weighing in around 8lb 5 oz now. She's low on the charts, in the 4th percentile or something, but she's eating great and has nice chunky cheeks and fat rolls on her arms and legs. Our ped said she's not concerned as long as I'm breastfeeding

Eyes and feet Well, Meadow had a cornea transplant 2 weeks ago in her right eye. Her eyes are both looking so much better - they're normal size now, and much clearer than they've ever been. She recovered from the surgery so much better this time, and her eye seems to be healing just fine. We don't have to go back to Miami for 2 months, so we are stoked about that! I have started looking into early intervention programs to get us some help raising a visually impaired baby.

As for her clubfeet, they're almost straightened out now! The ortho doc. measured her feet for the special shoes she will have to wear to keep the feet in the correct position. Hopefully she'll be out of the casts in 2 weeks or so!

Sleeping Meadow is sleeping well at night, but not a lot during the day. Natalie - I think you're right about not scheduling them yet. At least that's how we do it around here. Our days are so crazy still, with all the doctor's appts and surgeries. We are just lucky to get through each day.

Libido We have DTD a couple of times, but it's not very good I am still a little sore, and sometimes it hurts! I also have very little interest right now. Poor hubby!

: to all the mamas facing challenges with the new babes.

hi! A special hi to coyote - this depression thing stinks. But I got out yesterday and did some walking and shopping with a friend who recently had a baby. It helped my mood a lot. Especially when I got the go-ahead from DH to get a new Moby (since I can never seem to get it washed before I need it again).

I love these new "smilies" :

I started taking my supplements (alfalfa, vit C, vit B, fish oil, multi) plus a cranberry extract to help with some urinary tract issues. Not only have I been feeling a bit better, but my milk supply has gone from sufficient to overflowing, which is kinda cool.

Ahh, sorry to be so fragmented. I just read over all that. hehe, I just got Pj up from his nap, so I'm now.

Anyone's appetite out of control? I swear I fantasize about food way more than I ever did when I was pg. LOULOUBEAN - The weight has been slow for me too. I have lost a pants size since Christmas, but very little actual weight. I hit a plateau at about 8 weeks pp, and I think things have started to pick up again.

Pj is a monster - at nine weeks he weighed in at 16lbs, 27 inches. If DH keeps talking about the NFL, I may have to open up a can of bat**** crazy on him. I hate football.

Well, diaper duty calls. talk to ya later.

Now I understand why the ddc got so quiet. It was really nice to finally get enough time to read everyones posts and kind of catch up where everybody is at. It looks like most of us have pretty chunky babies. Benjamin is 13 lbs. and 2 oz at 13 weeks and he is thankfully over his ear infection. He is a cheerful baby who sleeps lots, unless I really want to do something, that it is inconvenient to hold him while doing, like sew on the machine. He loves the sling, and one of my front carriers, but while I prefer the stability of the wrap, he always wants to nurse as soon as I get it on, and I can't figure out how to get him in the position he wants to be into nurse with it on.

I totally am with those going through the every couple of day explosions, and our washing machine has been broken-the last repair part gets put in tomorrow(yeah!)-so we have been using disposables-which I really am not fond of, but I do love the gpants, which are kinda of a combo thing.

TL for my three year old, is finally getting back on track again-I think, but only if we are pretty much tied to the house. luckily I don't like to go out in the cold much anyway.

My biggest concern at the moment is the fact that I still have pp bleeding, and I don't know why.

I hope everyone has a lovely week, I know we are going to be above freezing for at least the next three days-so the weather man says, and I do love the sunshine.

Hi mamas!
I don't know why, but I am NOT able to get my shape back...I saw my friend today who had her DS 2 weeks after I had K and she's tiny. So uber-jealous . I was in tears this past weekend because we had a football party to attend (and of course we haven't seen these people in ages...) and I had nothing to wear...I ended up wearing a pair of khakis and a hoodie to hide the pp belly issue. Felt like crap. Then my bestest friend loaned me her pp jeans until I get back to "myself" sized. : having great friends!
All I want to do is shop and keep finding absolutely great things to purchase. Argh. Trying to be happy with the things I have....simplicity is better, right?

om girl - wow do i hear that! i am starting to wonder if i will ever be done with these maternity jeans.... two babies and three years on them - they may just fall apart from wear!
i guess this winter isn't helping. it's supposed to be negative degrees here again all weekend. :

typing with one hand, nursing with the other.....

I'm here at the inlaws waiting to go to bed. I'm so bored I'm actually on dhs blackberry right now. I went to the march for life this afternoon. Never have I loved my moby more. The only thing that was difficult was nursing. I ended up takoing himhalf out of the wrap and nursing standing up, with part of the wrap as support. By the end my blood sugar bottomed and I nearly fainted. One overpriced hotdog later and I was back in action. Pj was wonderful, even on the train wich hurt his ears. He loved seeing all the people, even though his little nose got a bit red. It was so cute. Then we came back to the ils and slept for two hours.all the protesters were very happy to see a little baby at the march, and I got complements on how¥cute he was. And one older woman saw me feeding him and she told me that it was beautiful and a lovely sight. A good day in all, but darn it I wish these people would go to sleep alresdy!!!

Two things: I am sooooo jealous that you got to go to the March for Life!!! And, we love the Moby here too! I have a Moby D which is sooo pretty; I feel pretty wearing it which is hrad when your muffin top shows every time you nurse!

Ok, so this week the following things have broken:
  • bathroom faucet broke, leaked all over the cabinet
  • garage door broke, refused to open until we replaced a part
  • my computer's hard drive died, everything is GONE including the stuff for the mom2mom sale I am hosting in March
  • I got a plugged duct that required a needle aspiration to pop OUCH - I do believe I may wean her since I can't go through that hell again.
  • the knob on the stove broke off and will cost $45 to replace (we cannot set the temperature without that knob, so it's currently next to useless)
Today, nothing broke, except my heart at today's news (not gonna talk about what upset me, but you girls know me well enough to know what it was). It's been a week, let me tell you... :

On the other hand, I got a really good deal on a gently used Mei Tai Baby ($8) on Zwaggle and it came in the mail and is gorgeous. I wore Nora in the Babyhawk today and loved it, which is good, because I have to temporarily suspend my search for the perfect bargain priced woven wrap because I spent all of my Paypal and fun money fixing the things that broke this week!

Teffer - I love living near DC. The city is close, and there is always something going on. I can't wait ti' DH and I get a place of our own. We will be within walking distance of the Metro, which will be a wonderful advantage. Right now we go and stay with his parents, since they are so close to the MD side of the Metro. Next year if we are living closer maybe we can offer you a couch to bunk on...

On the subject of muffin tops: y'all might think I'm a freak but I just can't stand my stomach. So I wear a spanx knock-off brand from Wal-Mart. Yup. That's right. I, of my own free will, choose to wear a girdle. I wear the kind that come really high up, so that not only does my tummy not pooch, but when I lift my shirt to nurse, it looks like an undershirt (I use the black ones). More embarassing to me than the flabby tummy is how awful my skin is. I have so very many stretch marks. They're pretty hideous and make me feel pretty low about how I look.

In more positive news, I am staying at my aunts house while she is on a business trip. I'm here to let the dogs out and make sure my teen cousins don't miss the bus. I was able to visit with her yesterday, which was so good for me. She is an AP mom, home birther, extended bfer, family bed, crunchy mama. It is so refreshing, since my parents were bottle feeding, cereal at 6 weeks, CIO, strict disciplinarians (lot's of spanking) and I have to deal with their commentary and opinions all the time. It's so uplifting to be around a mom who doesn't think I hold Pj too much, or that he's going to be a picky eater because I'm not introducing solids early enough, or that he'll never be independant if I sleep with him. I am going to enjoy this week away from scrutiny so very, very much.

Oh, and I'm really tired of smelling like spit-up. PJ eats like a greedy little piglet, then spits up what he doesn't want. *sigh*

Ouie ouie!!! I'm so relieved not to have any more breast pain. 2.5 months of plugged ducts and thrush pain...I'm a new woman. Not that I would recommend weaning, but I totally know where you are coming from.

We've been using a ring sling (not so comfy), a knit wrap (the support isn't as good as a woven) and my hubby uses the Bjorn (hate the thing myself, but it works for him). I'm so jealous of your BabyHawk deal! I thought I found a deal on one for $50 from Craigs List. It's brand new, lady bought it, used it once, decided it wasn't for her, but she'd already washed it and couldn't return it. I wore Charlie in it for 4 hours yesterday, and I'm not sore at all! Big to the mama who designed BabyHawk. Your deal is amazing!

Nerdy, I don't know how you put up with the constant comments. You are my hero. It sounds like you are a great mama!

As for the weight, I'm under pre-preg weight, but still have the muffin top thing going on. I keep running stairs at the hospital though, and I'll be gettin' skinny in no time! I actually came home from work Friday night sore! As the weather warms up we can all get outside and work off this fluff!

Gypsy-hope the washer gets fixed soon!

Birdie-it sounds like your girl is making amazing strides. Prayers and healing for her!

yes I have and I just bought a new Toucan Girasol new weave to step up to! I've been working on the back carries in preparation for a woven to arrive!

Well, I do believe that my supply issues are well in hand! Thanks to some good MDC advice I cut my milk supply in half and now have a reasonable amount of milk for 1 baby! Perhaps I won't have any more plugged ducts!

maybe their cans are a lot bigger but I buy Baby's Only direct from the company for $10 a can. But thank you for thinking of me! As much as I am grateful that it means my baby won't starve, I hate formula, and I hate bottles even more. :

I didn't know/couldn't remember what you used. If my milk supply won't stay down to reasonable one baby level, I might need to know where to get that formula. I was doing well for a few days, but today is iffy.
