Why wasnt I told this?!

I am new to the non-vaxing side of the debate. My Son has only had 1 DTAP and I am not sure I will even continue on the delayed/selective schedule we are on. During my research I found that at least some of the vaccine inserts say that babies that are born prematurely or have low birth weight should reconsider getting the vaccine as it may not be safe for their compromised system. My DD#1 was BOTH. Why did no one tell me that even the manufacturer said it might not be safe to shoot my premature low birth weight infant with all of these chemicals and viruses? Is is not the normal practice to tell a mother when a treatment may be counterindicated?

BTW I am lucky, my DD's (both premature) only suffered minor injury in the form of fever and redness, but that isnt the point!

I'd be mad too, if I were you. I was told clearly by my doctor that my full-term healthy 9lb-at-birth baby could not get any vaccinations at eight weeks--it had to be two months.

So it seems you got a bad doctor!

Sorry Mama!!

We chose to delay vax our twins initially. Our ped told us the exact same thing your dr said- that it did not matter if they were premature or low birth weight!!!: She said that only means they need it more because of their vulnerability. Hello.... I wasn't an expert on vaxes but you can't expect me to buy the fact that an injection that would go into an adult would be fine for a 4 pound newborn!!!

Needless to say, we now go to a family med doctor that totally supports non-vaxing and we don't have to get all the scare mongering at every appointment!

It is so sad that parents have to figure it all out. Most of my friends who vax are respectful of my decision but don't really trust it. I urge them to at least read the inserts for every vaccine, every time. I think if they did they would be surprised at what they would find. I am sorry you were treated this way and am glad that there wasn't too much of a reaction.

I'm curious to know where you found this?

I was mad too! Luckily we did all of our vaccine research before our twins were born preemies so we already knew we were not vaxing. A week before before my twins came home (they were around 5 lbs or so) the nurse asked for my signature for the hep B shot. When I refused she went to her superviser and asked "can they do that?" She worked there for 20 years in the NICU and we were the first to refuse vax for our preemies. Frankly, I find that sad, shocking and sick.

Frankly I am not suprised at all you were not fully informed. Most parents are not before their doctors start jabbing their babies with all kind of toxins. My friend's baby was a pemie and she had everything right on "schedule". I have been told things from doctors that are just dead wrong and all one has to do is look at the insert. The point is they don't.....most don't even know that ingredients are in these vaccines. It is quite sad! Sorry you had to endure that and Im glad you are putting the breaks on!

That information has been around since the 1940s in the medical journals.

There was even a study done in Los Angeles county in the 1980s that linked the DPT shot, especially the P portion, with SIDS.

I hope this is the beginning of a wonderful adventure into vaccine literature for you.

It saddens me to see this is still going on. I don't know where you live, but when this happened to us almost 12 years ago I blamed the area in which I live. I guess I'm still learning that ignorance towards this subject knows no boundries. I encourage you to do all the research you can BEFORE they stick your babies. And if you're told, as I was, that " the doctor knows best", remind them who the parent is and seeing as how this parent is also a consumer, I'll take my business elsewhere.
