three vday ideas

One year my daughter's Waldorf kindergarten class drew names, and each child needed to make one special homemade Valentine for another classmate. We ended up making the mouse valentine out of Earthways. It is basically a heart folded in half to resemble a mouse. We cut a large heart out of a red and blue drawing that my daughter had done using the wet-on-wet painting technique. This drawing was done on water colour paper, so it was nice and sturdy. We glued a piece of red construction paper the same size on the inside. We wrote something along the lines of "Dear _______, Have a mice Valentines Day! Love, Kaitlin" Then we attached a piece of twine for a tail. It turned out really cute!

another vday idea is to sew a heart shaped herbal dream pillow(these would also be great in an Easter basket). For a good book on this, check out Making Herbal Dream Pillows by Jom Long.

Not a craft, but this would make a lovely Valentine's Day Gift: a rose quartz crystal, it is thought to be full of love energy. a quote in regards to rose quartz from Baby Buddhas: "Place your crystal on your altar and use it with meditations. If your child is having a difficult time expressing him/her self, ask your child to hold the crystal up to his or her throat for a few moments to help "open the throat up for loving words"
Give a rose quartz crystal to your child to take with her or him on a new adventure like starting school. You can fill the crystal with love and send it with your child."


Just make sure you select one that is appropriate size wise for small hands and curious mouths!

that's great! i actually have those muffin molds and was considering getting rid of them because they are silicone....but i love the idea of using them for crafts! now i just need to locate some beeswax!

oh and i learned how to use my sewing machine yesterday (thanks to my dh i got lessons for christmas)....so today i am venturing and making red corduroy hearts (from a pair of pants i never wear) and stuffing them with bit of old tshirts. i think i am going to make some smaller ones and fill them with rice/beans....just excited to be ing and being resourceful! :

I LOVE this idea! I don't have the muffin molds (will have to see if I can track some down), but have oodles of beeswax left from when I made some hand cream and a beeswax block crayon left from making a couple of waldorf dolls.

I love the last couple of pictures of garland where she shows them mixed with other things (like pine cones and acorns). What a great idea!

pampered_mom---where'd you get the beeswax? i am trying to find the best place to track some down online....AND some wicks...anyone have thoughts on either? i'd appreciate it!

NOt sure about the beeswax, but I have seen wicks and Michael's craft store.

I got mine from Mountain Rose Herbs. You can get as little as 1oz from them for around $1.50, but I got the 1lb block ($11). There's a link around here somewhere that you can use to buy it and MDC gets a percentage.

You can also get some from Frontier if there's a buying club near you- either in what I assume is a 1lb block or 1lb of beeswax beads. Otherwise I'd suggest checking with a local beekeeper. I've never done that myself, but suspect you could get some from them.

the best place to get beeswax is from a local beekeeper. i found that the shipping is sooo $$$ online and local pickup is of course cheaper!
