Any other "AMA" Mamas here? - Page 2

I have my first appt on the 27th for an US. I already have talked to the OB and had BHCGs drawn on three different days over the last week. The HCGs were right on target.

Where are you stationed? We are in San Antonio, TX.

My last baby was delivered at Madigan Army Medical Center in Washington. AMA did not make you high risk there either.

Do you have an appt?

I'll be 37 when this little one is born and when I called to make my first prenatal appointment, the woman on the appointment line asked me if I'm going to want an amnio. WTF? I haven't even had 1 appt yet and I'm already being asked? I was taken off guard... just said I didn't know yet. Oh well. Of course, DH wants me to do it... I am not on board.

What the heck? Maybe they have to schedule them far in advance for some reason. Still! They could at least wait til the first appointment.

Goatmom, I'm in NC. And my intake appointment is also the 27th!

Maybe it is a scheduling thing for the amnio. I know I won't have one unless needed. I had one once to check lung maturity at 34 weeks. Not pleasant. If you push, they can really do most of the diagnosing with a really good high level US. I would only have one if needed for medical purposes.

Citizenfong - the 27th it is then! I can count the days and hope to see the little heart beating.

I'm 40 so I'm also in the AMA category. I am pregnant with my sixth and this will be my fourth pregnancy over age 35. They really didn't do anything different during the pregnancies over 35 except offer me more tests (amnio, genetic counseling, etc.) I talked to my ob last week and asked her if this pregnancy would be handled differently now that I've hit the '40' milestone and she said no, she sees plenty of women who have babies at 40 and over and not to worry. That made me feel much better!
