Thermostat recommendations ?

I want to buy a programmable thermostat that has more than scheduling features. I want to be able to adjust the cycle time and/or the temperature differential.

If anyone has one that allows you to do this, could you share the manufacturer and model number of it please ?

Thanks !

We have a Honeywell thermostat that is really flexible in programming........sorry I don't know the model #, though.

I can't recommend one in particular, but I can tell you to steer clear of RiteTemp from either Lowe's or HomeDepot (forget which). It is HORRIBLE. First, it's confusing, second it doesn't work well and then, when we thought it was just us being doofs, our A/C guy told us they're always a problem.

I have a Honeywell, too, and we LOVE it. The Model # is CT3200. Both the contractors who bid on our new furnace said Honeywells are good.

My favorite thing about it is it has four different settings M-F, and two different for Sa-Sun. I've seen some programmables that only have two settings every day, but that's just not enough for me. Ours is very easy to program, and also easy to temporarily change the temp for times when you have company or a different schedule.

I should probably clarify, we already have one that allows us to set a schedule.

The problem is that the cycle time is too short, and the temperature differential it allows (difference between the setpoint temperature and room temperature) is too small. So it goes on/off/on/off too frequently.

I want one I can set to either wait longer between cycles of checking the temperature and responding, or set to allow a bigger difference between the setpoint temp and room temp so it doesn't turn itself off and on so frequently.

Thanks !

I agree, I bought expensive ritetemps for our house because they had more features than the honeywell (6 time zones for one, which is nice). After a few months, the thing forgot the programming, in trying to reprogram it it wouldn't do PM, it would give me times like 16:73AM and would register the temp as much as 6 degrees off (according to my other thermometer). I had to give up on them and buy the honeywells. We've had honeywells in every other house in the past and never had a problem.

I'm not sure any of them do that (allow you to set that), however I'll say that I don't find our furnace going on or off too frequently with the honeywells. If yours is doing that I'd wonder whether you shouldn't consider insulating / air sealing better as it sounds then like your house loses heat awful fast. Even if I shut the temp off, we won't lose a degree of heat for quite a while.
