Can anyone recommend a book for DH and I to read together?

For valentines day, im going to get a novel to read together every night before we go to bed. Id love for it to have some sort of romantic vibe, but nothing like the typical mass market romance section of a book store. Those types are a tad cheesy for his taste

Any ideas anyone?

Annette Vallon, if you're into historical fiction. It's a fictitious account of the romance between William Wordsworth and Annette Vallon, set amidst the action of the French Revolution. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I'm reading Dead Until Dark, by Harris right now. It's not truly typical romance novel, it has crimes to be solved, and certain mystery with the whole vampire story-line going on. But it has romance woven into it, and some naughtiness. This is the series that are made into HBO True Blood series (I haven't watched it, waiting to read the books first)

Or you could go the classic route, and maybe get Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

You can't beat Jane Austen, but I remember enjoying The Republic of Love by Carol Shields.

So i've narrowed the list down to 2 books and I can't decide.

Jane Austen's Persuasion

or

Leo Tolstoy Anna Karenina

Tolstoy's is a tragic romance but I really love this book. Its beautiful and its been a long time!
Ive been wanting to read Persuasion for some time and haven't had the chance yet. I might want to read this one on my own. I don't know tho

I'd go with Austen (and I love War and Peace ). But the train scene?? I couldn't read Karenina... *shudder*

Anna Karenina is not exactly romantic! Like Oriole says, that train scene . . .

Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights, if you're going to go with classics. How nice that your husband would do that; mine not so much, though I have to say he has gotten into some of the movies I like & it's so much fun to watch them together.

Dh and I both liked The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje a lot.
