i don't know yet if i will do one. will you and if so why? if not why?
No, unless I think it is medically necessary.

I don't have any medical procedures done that are not medically necessary. I never needed one with ds and am hoping for another normal pregnancy!

i was not going to, but i am having one MONDAY to help date the pregnancy

Yes I will be doing on but for only one reason. My second daughter was born at 26 weeks due to placenta previa which resulted in a significant placental abruption. When I had my last ultrasound my first question was not what the baby was but how did my placenta look.

Yes. For a few reasons. One, to find out the gender. We can't plan otherwise. Two, since we're having a UC I want to make sure everything is as perfect as possible. I don't want any surprises. And I may actually ask for one earlier (like in a couple of weeks) to make sure there's only one in there, but I may not. Again, so there are no surprises. If there's more than one then I'll need to switch docs since my GP doesn't deliver babies and I'll need to do something else. So I'll probably ask for a quick one in a couple of weeks and then one at 20 weeks for gender and to check everything deeper. That's all.

No, I will not be having one. I think that they are dangerous and harmfull to the baby *especially* in early pregnancy.

I do not believe in routine u/s. I don't believe it improves outcomes (wait...I agree with ACOG about something??) and I am concerned about long term safety with u/s.

However, I have had one already and will likely get at least one other. My last pregnancy was a UP and, after going through an entire pregnancy, we discovered that there was no baby. It was a false pregnancy (whatever that actually means, biologically...I do not believe that I "created" a pregnancy with my superhero-strong mind! ).

But, in our case, we feel like verifying that there is still a baby in my womb is a pretty good use of an u/s. I still worry about safety, but sometimes you have to weigh the risks. I do not know if my family could handle another experience like what we've already been through. I don't know if *I* could!

Wow, Tracy- big hugs. I would want to 'see' that baby also!

I won't have an US unless there is a reason for one. I didn't with my last two kids and it was fine (other than it made everyone else a little nuts that I just shrugged and said 'don't want one'). If something happens during this pg that makes me feel one is in my best interest, yes, I would.

specialblessings, I am sure I would have a US in your situation!! You will have to keep us updated on how your placenta looks.

same here--only if I feel it's absolutely necessary from a medical standpoint.

I'm undecided. I had 2 routine US's with DS1 and 1 for "cramping'. So 3 total. With DS2 I had none. I kind of wanted one at 20wks to check for defects, etc, and it was so much hassle to get one with a CPM as my provider (she does not do them). None of the local OBs would do it for me since I wasn't their patient. So I would have had to lie about "transferring" care and I was uncomfortable doing that. I'm not sure what I'm afraid of. I'm not sure why I think having one will make everything ok. I think deep down I don't think I need one as long as everything is ok otherwise. BUT I feel a need to get one because my family wants me too. My sister was most nervous last time about my lack of US. She's an OB nurse and had a hard time wrapping her head around my HBAC plans. In the end she was very supportive and came to my birth. So- I don't know. I have 14 or so weeks to decide.

I'm undecided. I had one with DD (rather than the two my midwife wanted). I am leaning toward no u/s, but DH REALLY wants to know the gender.

We'll see if I cave.

if absolutely necessary, I dont plan on it or imagine it necessary, but stranger things have happened

I will NOT let x persuade me into having one simply to find out the gender. Sorry, but I want the surprise. Its not a boy, or a girl, or a jacob or a madison(top babynames of 2008) its a BABY.

Yep.

My dating u/s is this week. And I'll be going through another at the 20+ week point. More than likely we'll find out the gender.

I will most likely be getting atleast 2. One in about a month and another around 20 weeks.
I'll get to see my gummi bear transform into a little chicken (I swear that is what DD looked like in there!)

I will for a couple of reasons. First, I've had a cesarean so I want to make sure the placenta is not near my scar. Second, we lost our son in October to an abruption/subchorionic hemorrhage. I really want them to take a good look at the placenta. Even though I know it's no guarantee, I think it would go a long way towards making me feel more at ease. I don't want to know the gender and I am not all that interested in an anatomy scan.

Lots of Hugs coming your way. I believe my first c-section is what caused my placental previa which resulted in an abruption.

I really relate to your post about your ultrasound. I JUST want to know what the placenta looks like. It's so hard NOT to focus on that. Hugs back to you.

I am not planning to. I had one for dating when I was pregnant with my daughter, because I had NO idea when I'd gotten pregnant. I was already 4 months! With my son I had a UP/UC, so no ultrasounds with him. I don't want to know the sex, I love being surprised!
