I'm checking out the laptops on sale at Dell, and I have a question-- do I need to buy Word if I already have it on disk from my last computer? Thanks!

As long as you have your authentication key you don't.

Awesome.

Hey, another question. Buying a laptop, and it comes with a battery-- I don't need to also buy any kind of power cord, do I?

And if we lost the authentification key and called Dell, do you think they would give it to us?

If your authentication key is lost, you won't be able to re-install Word.

Your laptop will almost certainly come with a battery and a power cord. The batteries are re-chargeable, so you need to plug the laptop in to charge the battery.

I ordered one last night! :

If for some reason I can't install Word, I'll just make do with Google Docs or something.

Annette - the word processing software from http://www.openoffice.org/ is pretty good. And better - it's free! I don't know how it compares to Google Docs, but it's something to look at.

IME laptops come with a power cord, so I don't think you should need one, but you can always check the contents list for the item to make sure.

congrats on ordering.

I was going to suggest open source software to replace word as well. I've used Google docs for powerpoint presentations, and it worked really well. I don't know about openoffice, but it's worth a try before you spend a bunch of money on word.

I've heard a lot about Open Office, and will definitely check it out. I'm ridiculously excited. DH got a laptop for church over a year ago, and I've been coveting his ever since.
