Kind of dumb questions re: books

I'm just wondering how any of you stay current on new book releases? Do you have a website, or some other publishing that you check in with? Do you just spend a lot of time in bookstores? I used to do this, but I just can't spend the same amount of time in bookstores that I used to. I'm finding that I'm utterly clueless about new book releases unless they're getting a lot pf press for some reason. BTW, I read both fiction and non-fiction so if you have a source for either I'd be happy to know about it. TIA!

I'll just say that what I know about new releases I get from reviews in the news paper, from NPR and from chat here at MDC. Seriously. Or sometimes when I enter Amazon there might be a new release that catches my eye. But I don't watch Oprah, so I only ever hear about the latest debacle with her book club here at MDC.

Do you have a personalized Amazon recommendations list? I find a lot of new releases pop up there. I'm also on AuthourTracker notifications for a number of my favourite authours.

My library has special shelving for new fiction/non-fiction. They are new purchases for the library, so some are older, but all the new releases are shelved there for at least 8 months. I have stumbled across a few books there even before they really become popular.

I also read this section of MDC religiously and look up interesting things on Amazon. In addition, my dh gets the New York Review of Books at work and brings it home for me to look through.

Finally, check your library for back issues of Publisher's Weekly and Booklist. Most libraries take them, and ours puts them on the shelf for circulation. I have a massive inter-library loan list from these two sources alone.

I love the NPR book reviews too. And I get the book section of the New York Times in a free online newsletter. And I browse thru the new books section at the library, when I have a chance.
