How to make handkerchiefs and wipies

In the past- I have made these out of flannel or flannel baby blankets.
However, they get rough with so many washings within 6 m to a year.
What would be a better option?
Would fleece work>? better flannel?
What did you use?

thanks

For handkerchiefs, linen is traditional. It gets softer with washing.

My father and FIL both use regular thin woven cotton (not flannel-- maybe muslin?) handkerchiefs that they got at Sears or JC Penney or something. Those seem to work fine for them, and they both have been using the same ones for years and years. So whatever thin woven cotton you have should work.

For baby wipes, when I use re-usable ones, I just use thin terry washcloths.

I second the linen or muslin. I made 8 beautiful hankies out of 2 thrift store shirts - both a fine linen. $2.

What a great idea. I've been thinking of switching to hankies, as with my allergies, I'm spending easily $10/month on Puffs. :

Any special washing instructions for hankies? I'm thinking they would need to go in Hot with towels, right?

I tend to just toss them in with whatever I'm washing, whether that's clothes or towels.

As for fabric, like the pp said, any fine woven fabric, but you might also consider knit - cut up some old t-shirts, and the bonus is that they don't need to be hemmed.
