My dd lost her bottom two teeth about six months ago, right after her fifth birthday, and after all these months, has another one loose. She seemed pretty early to me, too. But I look my first tooth right around five and a half, so it isn't that much earlier than normal, I guess.
Dd1 got her first 2 teeth at 4 months, and lost her first two at about 5 and a half, so I don't think it's out of the ordinary. I have no proof, but I do think the earlier they get them, the earlier they will lose them.
I forgot to add, and I couldn't be bothered editing, dd1 is 7, and has her two front permanent teeth, which are, naturally, too big for her mouth right now. Well, I guess even unconsiously she knows, because every person she draws now has these HUGE front teeth drawn in. It's quite interesting watching her drawings for things like this!
Thanks for the replies! I've had so many people make comments about how early it is to lose teeth that it made me curious about what age other kids have lost theirs. He's only lost the one so far -- I keep waiting for the other bottom one to fall out but nothing so far. It is funny seeing this BIG tooth coming in to replace the little baby one that was there!
My middle son will be 8 next month and just recently lost his first tooth! I actually had the dentist x-ray his mouth to be sure teeth were in there! All of his friends lost their teeth in kindergarten and he is finishing up second grade! The dentist said that the longer the teeth stay under the gums, the healthier they'll be. The sad thing is that his baby teeth are completely worn down and I'm not sure how he manages to eat! It's also sad that he has outgrown the toothfairy already and hadn't even had a chance for a "visit". I guess we're never happy...too early or too late!
