Thanks for your responses, everybody. According to the repair woman, who has been out and looked at it at least twice, there is nothing wrong with the water heater -- I did watch her check the elements, both of them -- and my husband just needs to take shorter showers.
As far as saving money by buying a new one, I will have to look into our options now... I hadn't thought of switching over to gas, don't know if we can... Never heard of "tankless" before... So I appreciate everybody's experience and advice!
For those of you who have husbands who can just throw in a new water heater like it is no big deal, count that as one of your blessings. For the rest of us, that means an added installation expense.
