Chiropractor here - hey Dmitrizmom! Exciting to be in the same DDC together.

I own my own practice and am very nervous about having to take time off when the baby comes, and possibly before. Working on saving up a large emergency fund to cover my practice and our family's needs during that time!

I am Social worker, not currently practicing. A SAHM and a doula in a very slooooow area. Basically a doula is unheard of in my town but I really want to change that!

I'm a SAHM, and do childcare. I have an 18 mo here 5 days a week, and a 2 yo just on fridays. Right now Fridays are so utterly exhausting, having three kids under age 3!

I'm not sure what I'll do after the new babe is here...I feel like I will want a good amount of time with just my own kiddos, and may try to get a different business going. When DS was a year old I began doing courses - Postpartum Doula, and Childbirth Educator through CAPPA Canada. I've never had the time to actually do any of the practical stuff but I hope some day I can pick that up again!

I'm a home childcare provider. I've been doing this since my oldest was 1 yo. Right now I have my own 3yo, an almost 3 yo 2.5 days a week, a 2 yo every day and a 5m every day. Plus, I have 2 Kindergarten/1st grade girls here after school several days a week. It's busy, but since we need two incomes, it's great to be able to work and be home with the kids!

I'm a wAHM professional photographer, shooting mostly kids and weddings! I'd say the work part is definitely shadowed by the MOM part because I have no other caretakers around during the weekdays.

How'd I not see this thread before now?

Anyway...I was active duty Air Force, but I separated into the Reserves just after Connor was born because of his special needs (no way could I deploy, his medical needs are pretty intense). I now work as a Government Contractor, I'm a trained negotiator, so the Government puts me to good work! My current negotiating job has become L O N G and drawn out, painfully boring at times, and out-of-control frantic at others. Just the stress my pregnant body needs, right?

I'm also a LLL leader applicant, and I sort-of-unofficially help coach Ian's soccer team (i.e. I run herd on the kids when necessary!).

My hubby is SAHD and full time night student, although this is the last term that he can fit in a full schedule taking only night classes. He needs to do his student teaching, but there's no way he can, we can't afford daycare unless he's working, and Connor's health is too unstable to put him in daycare anyway. Catch 22 there. Sigh.

I also am pretty serious about fitness...I ran in my first marathon last September, I go to the gym at 6am four-five mornings a week with a group of coworkers, and I had been working towards my personal training certification, but that will be put off now because of this unexpected pregnancy!

I stay at home and homeschool (I see there are some other homeschoolers on here, yay!). I sell Barefoot Books, but mostly just to myself, so I am not sure if that counts!

I'm a loan officer for a credit union...was hoping to be able to work out a PT WAH situation with my job once the baby is born, but DH got laid off so we'll have to see what happens...he might end up being a SAHD. BTW, it totally sucks that he gets to sleep in every morning while I got to work with morning sickness.

I sell advertising part-time, assist with international relocations (also part-time), and do part-time daycare. I also am homeschooling my kindergartner, but that's pretty laid back. She really wants to go to school next year, so by the time this baby gets here she should be going. I'm also training to be a medical transcriptionist so I can drop some of these part-time gigs.

I'm sure it *could* be dangerous. But babies are *so* protected in the womb. It's incredible, really.

If it makes you feel better, I can tell you that I used to be a nursing home social worker. I had a co-worker, a CNA, who was in her third trimester of pregnancy, who got kicked (not intentionally) in the belly by a resident with Alzheimer's. Her baby was fine...though she was sure shaken up! And they did move her off the Alzheimer's wing for the duration of her pregnancy.

What a wonderful variety of amazing women we've got in this DDC!

Sometimes I feel like I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, lol (and I'm 37 !)

In my pre- and early mom life, I was a German translator and interpreter. Then, I got into copyediting and website design for a few years. I also performed in local theater (musicals) and played woodwinds/sang in a Celtic band.

After baby #3 came along, we moved to a much larger town and I finally found a mama "peer group" to bond with; that was so lovely! So then I started making and selling slings and knitted wool covers, started making my own dipes, etc. became a WIC bfing peer counselor and started the process of becoming a LLLL. My oldest kiddos became school-aged, so I embarked on homeschooling them half-time (they go to an alternative school in our public school system.) Then I toyed with the idea of using my teacher's certification (from undergrad) to go back and teach at their school.

Just about then, Sophia came along, and with her birth, I developed a whole new set of interests/priorities. I am now a volunteer in both our local Down Syndrome Association as well as an advocacy organization for parents of children with Special Needs.

I've also gotten big-time into organic gardening/preserving what we grow, and we plan to start raising chickens this spring.

Recently, my career interests seem to be Occupational Therapy and Pharmacy -- I would love to get training and work in either of those fields, as they both fascinate me.

But for the immediate future, I am, first and foremost, MOM, and that's been my best job of all thus far!
