reduced nursing in 10 wk old

dd2 has never been into the comfort nursing, unlike her older sister. she'll be at the breast to eat, other than that it makes her angry. she also does a lot of pulling off and fussing.

i thought she might be sensitive to dairy and cut it all (and soy) out for a month or so, when i slowly reintroduced it there was no discernable change in her behaviour (she's a somewhat high needs child).

she doesnt seem to be eating much lately.

she sleeps great at night. last night she slept 10pm-5am nursed one side for 25 mins, a few mins on the other side and then slept til just before 9am. i've not been able to get her to eat much at all since then she's popping on and off and refusing to latch. she must be hungry, right? i am worried

ETA: she spent most of yesterday crying, don't know if that's relevant

Could be normal. how are her diapers?

Ds is also an infrequent nurser usually (unlike dd was...)

fine. normal.

just spoke to an LC, she said it might be a nursing strike. seems odd for one so young

Does baby use pacifiers or bottles? That can lead to reduced nursing.

It can help to wear baby in sling, lots of skin to skin contact, co-sleeping, cut out all bottles and pacifiers.

I have a friend whose baby didn't like her milk when she had mastitis. She thought he was striking and found she had mastitis, granted he was older, but a thought?
That's no fun.
