My baby arrived Jan 10th after 12-14 hours of labor. IT'S A BOY!!!!
His name is Lincoln Arthur, he weighed 8lbs 14oz - which shocked everyone except my boyfriend who has been insisting that I was having a HUGE baby. The midwives didn't think my belly was big enough to hold a baby that big!
Labor was hard, the worst was the cervical lip that I had to push against forever, and that then reappeared! I tore badly- only 2nd degree, but a very experienced midwife from another town who was visiting the birthing center had to confirm that b/c the midwives that were tending to me couldn't tell if it was just deep 2nd degree or third degree. (I had to push on my back, I was too tired for any other position) After delivery I was very weak and dehydrated - they almost gave me an IV but decided just to make me drink lots and then give me one if I didn't improve. Its a good thing they didn't give me one - I couldn't pee for over 8 hours and so they had to give me a catheter, the first one didn't work, so they had to wait another 2 hours then try again. My midwife said that if they had given me an IV it was likely that my bladder would have exploded - it was that full - they got 2 liters of pee out when the catheter finally worked.
Lincoln on the other hand is perfect - he's so cute, and we just love him to pieces already. Nursing is going well, he latches great on one side, but not so great on the other. We're both new to this though, so I'm sure things will improve as I heal.
