Best wrap for a first timer due in the summer?

I have been a nanny for years and have gotten a LOT of use from my bhmt, hotslings, and beco (also have a ringsling that I've never used), but I want to get a wrap for my own babe due in June. I really don't know what would be the best to learn with and/or last the longest. I will also stop working so we won't be able to spend much money on carriers once the baby comes. Should I really start with a stretchy wrap (like a moby) even if it doesn't last long? What about a woven? I'd like it to be cool for the summer. Thanks!

For summer, a nice woven wrap brand is Vatanai - thin and soft!

I personally did like having a stretchy for my newborn, but if you are a good wrapper (or willing to learn) you can totally skip it and save the money since the woven will last you forever.

If you are thinking of a stretchy, I hear Gypsy Mama Bali Baby Stretch is the coolest for summer.

The Moby was definitely easy to keep putting the babe in and out. I used it all last summer (I like in Chicago). She was nice and cozy in it. When it got hotter, I would make sure that their was some air going through. With that said, I eventually moved on to an Ellaroo wrap and that is super breathable, but not stretchy. I found it a little more difficult to get her in and out of that. Now, that she is older (9 months), it is a lot easier to pre-wrap and toss her in there...not sure why. I think the Didy waves is supposed to be nice too.

I am going to say a didymos pfau would be a great choice. The pattern is interesting, but it is very cool in the summer, yet supportive enough to use through toddlerhood. Not stretchy though. You could always buy some cotton jersey fabric to use as a stretchy to begin with and it would be cheaper if you could find some on sale.

The gypsy mama bali baby breeze (not stretchy). It's cool and supportive. It's still comfy with my 25 pounder. It's very light and thin.

I love my GMBBB, not as supportive as the didy, but way cooler.

oh, and to answer the stretchy question. I liked using a stretchy at first. They are great for newborns and easy to learn as their stretchy nature makes them very forgiving. Like a pp said, though, you don't have to start with a stretchy, wovens work great with newborns too.
You can consider buying used. You can get great carriers in great shape and already broken in

Oh yeah, I love tbw so I'll definitely get one from there!

summer wrapping with a newborn, hands down GM BBB. lightweight cotton gauze - just can't beat it and it's plenty supportive with a little one. and they're gorgeous too.

i'm actually trading someone on TBW right now for one, as we're going to the beach this summer and i want one for the trip. FYI, i saw one on FSOT in the Iris colorway yesterday for $30ppd. and i know there's one colorway Wrapsody is discontinuing and those are on clearance right now.

i loved my bali baby stretch also, but it was a lot warmer than a breeze to be sure. it worked fine for in the house during the summer, but i didn't wear it outside much. i preferred a linen ring sling over just about anything with all my babies in the summer - two were born in May and one in July, and the linen ring slings definitely got the most love around here!

Thanks! Another question- I found a new bbb for $40 on tbw, but is it best to get used so it's already broken in? Or is it such a good deal I should get it?

I don't think it makes that much of a difference with GMs. Heavier wovens, yes. My GM BBB didn't really take breaking in. I just washed it and it was fine.

snag it if you like the colorway! gauze breaks in easy peasy. and that's more of a typical used price, so that's a great deal!
