We got to the hospital at 5.50 Friday morning, and got to Labor & Delivery around 6.30. At 7, shift changed, and the new nurses told us that DD couldn't be there, we had to find someone to watch her or DH would have to leave with her. They gave us 30 minutes before they said they would make DH leave. We cried, stressed, called people from DH's old work, called people from school, finally got ahold of someone who said she would watch DD.
At 8.30, they started the pitocin. I asked them about a Foley catheter or a Cook's catheter, but they said my OB doesn't do them, that there is only one person at the hospital that *does* do them. They said since I had been contracting regularly, they didn't have to use as much. Around 10, things started to pick up. I hadn't been able to sleep well Thursday night, DD woke up at 2.30 and wouldn't go back to sleep. The contractions were pretty close together, and hard to get through. DH said they were about 1.5 to 2 minutes apart, and lasting about a minute. (When he wasn't helping me focus, he was at the monitor.)
At 1.30, my water broke. DH kept rubbing my back for me, telling me how close we were to finally having him with us. At 4, I started pushing, and around 5.45, they brought a mirror. After seeing how close he was, I pushed 3 more times, and he was born.
They put him on my chest, I just couldn't believe I did it. It was *so* surreal. DH went with the nurse to weigh him and see how long he was while my OB was doing my stitches. I ended up having a 4th degree tear, but they said it wasn't the worst kind of tear for that degree. After an hour, they were finally done with my stitches.
When he was born, everyone kept saying how big he was, and wanting to see the scale when they put him on. Apparently, I suprised a couple of the nurses, because they said they didn't think it would be possible to have a 10 lb baby vaginally. All I could say to DH after he was born was that I did it.
It was *so* surreal, and amazing, and hard, but *so* worth it.
He's been having a really hard time nursing, he did well right after he was born, and is doing a bit better now, but still isn't nursing as often as he should be, and I/we can't seem to get a good latch.
I'm really sore, but other than that, in good spirits.
Apparently, no one else thought I could do it either, and a lot of people thought I was taking silly risk(s), but I did it, and I'm alright, and they are eating their words.
My mom said that I would have been better off to have had a c-section, I would feel better, but honestly, I wouldn't have. The tear/stitches don't really hurt, I ache a little, but no real "pain". Probably the "worst" thing that I'm experiencing is the cramping when I nurse. Other than that, I feel great.

He was a great size! Good luck w/ nursing...it can happen for big babes. Ds3 was 10.3 and nursed for almost 3 happy years (and still sucks that thumb!) Keep it up and call LLL if you need to or head over to the BF forum here.
