2 polio shots in 4 weeks, I'm freaking out

We decided to space DD's shots out, part of her 2 month shots at 2 months, part at 3. At 2 months she had HiB, polio and DtaP. Today she was supposed to have Prevnar and rotavirus (we declined that one). Stupid me forgot the folder with what she had last time when we went and when the nurse said polio today I said sure. I assumed her chart was right. Well it was wrong and I figured that out once I got home. I called the office and they said someone will call me back once they figure out what went on. I am freaking out though. Can getting two polio vaccines that close do anything? I feel like the worst mother ever. I know accidents can happen in a medical office and it's my job as a mom to double check what they say. I feel bad for the nurse too b/c I know they're human and make mistakes. I know things like this must happen every once in awhile and Ella will probably be fine, but while I'm waiting for the office to call me back I need someone else to tell me this.

Deleted because I'm dumb! Sorry! Hope someone has an answer for you.

I didn't reply because I don't know, but I've been thinking of you all afternoon. Did they call you back yet?

I don't honestly know, but my gut response would be that it'll be okay. It's not one of the more reactive vaccines, and it's not the same as 2 within days of each other. It should have well cleared through her system within a few days of the first vax, so a month later should be okay I think.

They will tell you it's no problem no matter what...

What would you expect them to say?

Perhaps if they were that cynical and blase they would have said it's no problem on the phone and not said they would call her back.

OP, I hope everything is fine and you feel happier!

They said she would be fine, just make sure I am watching her for any odd behaviors, but they tell me that after every shot. She won't be getting one at her 4 month visit now. She had to go in today and get the right one. Poor kid is going to start feeling like a human pin cushion.

A couple of thoughts

Perhaps it is just your choice of wording "she had to go in today", but...no one can make you vax. Back when I was vaxxing, I did so partly because I thought I had to or else lo wouldn't get into school, the ped would drop us, etc. I now realize that there is no rush to vaccinate.

Secondly, the doc told you to watch for odd behavior. But since she got yet another vax today, how would you know which one caused the problem? Given that you are concerned about the polio vaccines being given in such a short time frame, I don't understand the wisdom of introducing a new vax into the mix at this time.

Exactly! Given what I have read on this board over the last year, I get the impression that very few doctors would say anything other than that the vaxes are completely safe, they've been extensively tested, blah blah blah.

I think there are some parents who would be relieved at the doctor's response in this case. After all, if it were a big deal he'd give some specific reactions to look out for rather than saying what he says after every vax. I read it as the doctor really has no clue what to look for and knows that any odd behavior can always be attributed to something else and in most cases the parent won't know the difference and will be satisfied. Take Guardasil for example. There are many cases of girls fainting upon receiving the vax. One doctor wrote that off as girls are the weaker sex and are skittish of needles.
