I'm not making an assumption, I'm stating facts, considering 90-95% of ALL americans are low on iodine. We hardly get the RDA and that itself is soooo small, your thyroid needs 5mg of iodine, your breasts need 5mg and the rest of your body needs at least 2mg. The miniscule amount that we do get in our diet is inhibited from being used by our body because of fluoride, chlorine, bromine/bromide(in bread) these halogens flood your thyroid and block the iodine from getting into your thyroid, goitrogenic foods like soy, broccoli, spinach, mustard, peanuts, etc. and even lead and mercury.
Women supplementing 50-150mg per day of iodine/iodide supplement see reversal of their condition.
I challenge you to get your levels tested and try supplementing for 3 or 6 months.
I am not encouraging you to treat yourself, I am encouraging you to take control of your health, no one knows your body like you do. See your own doc, have him test your levels(get ready to put up a fight since most insist you dont need it) let him prescribe you the iodine it'll probably be iodoral or lugol's iodine.
MoonStar- I'm glad you have upped your intake of iodine rich foods but you are most likely still very deficient, people this deficient taking 50mg a day for 9 months still havent reached sufficiency. Your body alone must have a iodine store of 1500mg, your thyroid should have a store of about 10% of that. Once you have reached sufficiency your body will excrete what it does not need.
Please, please get tested so that you can start improving your health.
My mother and I have been supplementing and have seen excellent results over just 1 month. I don't have my iodoral yet as I'm waiting for it to be shipped but I found Liquid dulse at the health food store and have been using that getting around 2mg a day until recently where my mother and I both upped the dose to about 4mg.
My mom has seen improvement in memory, this is a big one because ever since I can remember my mom has forgotten EVERYTHING! Now she is beginning to remember when she's placed something somewhere, she is also losing weight slowly, she has more energy, and she has become more umm regular.
I too have higher energy levels (I get lots done during the day and still have energy at night, thats with two kids!) , great mental clarity (no more brain fog, even I am remembering better, like where I put my keys
) I'm also losing weight easier than I ever have before (down 35 pounds), and um regularity.
Iodine isn't enough though, you also need selenium, vitamin e, and zinc to help your body process the iodine. Taking these also help your body detox the fluoride, bromide, chloride, lead and mercury stored up in your body.
Remember you also need to support your adrenal glands as iodine deficiency affects your adrenals since they pick up the slack of they thyroid (creates the hormones for your whole body) siberian ginseng is what I am taking since I am bfing, and my mom is taking licorice root. You could get dessicated adrenals but I feel that is just giving your body what it needs not helping make what it needs.
We also take fish oil and a good multi that has most of what we need and supplement what it doesn't have.
Hope some of you are able to use this information to heal yourselves.
Also I found a good source of iodoral for $33 for a bottle of 180 pills that each contain 12.5mg of iodine/iodide.
