Tell me I didn't screw this up

I did a provisional cast on with a worsted weight yarn. I knit my couple rows and then switched to my main yarn, a fingering weight one. It looks big right now. It's just because my cast on is larger right and once I take it out everything will look as it should? I'm not stretching out my stitches and essentially screwing with the fit am I?

Hope not--I just did the same thing.

You will probably have better results using a yarn that is more similar in weight to your waste yarn. I haven't tested it but techknitter says so and she's a knitting goddess ;-)

Could you use the figure 8 cast on for your project? I like using a spare circular needle instead of the waste yarn so that I'm all ready to knit when I come back to that side. It might be a better option with small yarn.

I forgot to check techknitter!

No, figure 8 wouldn't work (I prefer the magic cast on anyhow ). I was starting in the middle of the item as opposed to an end.

You can use the figure 8/magic CO just like other provisionals.

What are you making?

Socks. I want to make long socks but not sure how much yarn I have (I've never used this brand before). While I like toe up I don't like the leg fit of tem as opposed to my cuffdown ones. Then I saw this one night scrolling through Ravelry. I figured that was a good way to do it! I know I could knit toe up to just past the heel but I didn't want to learn 2 at once via magic loop toe up. I am just getting comfy with top down magic looping 2. I decided to just do it toe up to the ankle though. Turns out I had too many stitches and neded to frog anyway.

Mine seems to have worked out just fine. I'm doing socks too, but doing the "forethought" heel a la Charlene Schurch. Now that I'm an inch or so past where I picked up the stitches, you can't even tell anymore.
