Rsv

I am so sorry I haven't been here to share in birth announcement joy and commisserate with those still waiting for baby to arrive, but we just spent the last 7 days in our local pediatric hospital with RSV.

Little Eloise got it from big brother, who likely dragged it home from parent's day out. She was congested and running a fever, and I took her in to the urgent care where they promptly admitted her. It was a little scary. She ended up needing oxygen and an IV and lots of deep suctioning. Anyway, all the Dr.s said her case was really mild for her age because she was full term, so big (9+ lbs), and breastfeeding. They were very supportive of breastfeeding and never brought up supplementing. They said if she did need a feeding tube they would use my milk. I got mastitis ( because she wasn't eating well) and they brought me a pump before we were even admitted. I also had a fridge in our room for milk, and they got me a hospital tray 3x a day as a nursing mom. Oh, and they didn't yell at me for sleeping with her in the large hospital bed rather than having her in the crib. I kind of did it on the down low and didn't ask, but nurses and RTs did come in and see what I was doing (nursing side-lying is the best thing EVER!)

So my PSA is don't drag your winter babies around too much and if you have an older child be careful about handwashing (although with a toddler coughing right in her face it's kind of difficult) I am sending healthy vibes to everyone. We are fine but it is not the way I was looking forward to enjoying Eloise' 2nd-3rd weeks of life

I am also having a cough thing going on in my chest and coughing badly, I think thats why my baby didn't come on its due date.... Well me DH and my 4 year old so I think nature is protecting the babe a little longer.

That must have been so hard. I'm glad things at least went smoothly at the hospital.

Ugh. Hugs.

I was *just* googling "rsv" since my 2.5 year old is coughing up a storm and sneezing all over the house. We're all walking germies. Scares the heck out of me to have this little one get sick!!

. I am glad Eloise is feeling better. One of my twins had pneumonia at 3 months. That was scary enough. I cannot imagine 3 weeks.

Glad she is on the mend!

With being due in the winter RSV has been on my mind. Years ago I worked for early headstart and a lot of the children I worked with had RSV which affected them as they grew. I never heard of RSV until I moved to NM. I have been planning on staying home for a while after the babe comes to ward off the RSV.

I am glad to hear Eloise is doing better, my 11yods had RSV at 2 weeks and spent a week in hospital as well, caught it from older sister. He was smallish at 7lbs and 3 weeks early, he has permanent scars on his lungs from it. I have read that boys, especially pre term boys are more susceptible to long term complications. Micah is now 8 days old and we haven't been anywhere. I am keeping my kids home/away from friends for at least another week. Micah was almost 2 weeks early and only 6 lb. 10 oz. I don't want to take any chances. Its a good thing we homeschool and have plenty of sibs to play with, they are also still babymooning with me and haven't asked to play with other friends yet.

Best wishes for Eloise's continued recovery!
Sarah

I am glad to hear Eloise is doing better. My youngest had it as well at 13 days because her big bro and sis were sick when she came home. We spent 4 days in the PICU at the U of MD. Worst 4 days of my life.
