Flu Freak out

I came THIS close to getting the bloody vaccine for ds today. I had decided not too... but than I went to work and read ALL these horror stories! ALL of them about kids on respirators, with resistant staph infections... I was panicking even though I know better.

OK, I am taking deep breaths and calling the homeopath to see what he suggests.
DS is healthy, still bf'd at 19 months, eats well, takes vitamins.. and I am washing all our hands all the time.

Someone tell me I am making the right decision.

I think you are making the right decision, remember the flu shot still contains mercury. plus I have heard that this year's shot isn;t even offering protection against that killer strain going around.

I havent vaccinated myself or anyone in my family.

I have the flu and am recovering, and two of my kids got it, the youngest (age 5) was hit the hardest....his turned into a pnuemonia. But he was never hospitalized and i watched him like a hawk.

You are right Ash, people are completely hysterical, freaking out totally. I work in an ER, and the lines, the wait time, the tempers....i cant tell you how awful it has been. Pandemonium is how i would describe the public.

The staph infections (MRSA-Methicillin resistant staph. aure.)are common in kids /people who take lots of antibiotics-
at the nursing home I worked at for 17 years-
First it was an infection with a fever,etc-call Dr -get antibiotic-some better ,then ill again soon-call Dr -get antibiotic, etc
Then an infection would be really bad -get a culture -MRSA in urine or sputum.

The flu vax were given in Oct-most all got them -a lot still got sick .

Thanks. I just needed some reassurance. So much hysteria out there, it is hard to swim against the current.

I'm not getting a bit concerned....not freaking..

but wondering if there is a mercury free version of the flu vaccine. And there's the thermisol concern. Is that a different concern from the mercury? I'm concerned about getting pg this cycle and getting the flu.

TIA

I'm right there with ya, hon. When explaining to my dad why I didn't vax my baby, I feel very confident and totally believe and understand what I'm saying. But then I turn on the news...

By morning, I'm pretty sure I'll be okay with her not having had it, but right now I'm feeling really scared. It's not even that having the shot would give me much comfort since it doesn't actually seem to be protecting against the killer flu. The idea of traveling with a child right now is scary, and the idea of cloistering ourselves indoors all winter is impossible.

I can't sleep.

If it really becomes a killer it will only be due to the paniced people. Until 2 months ago (a lil less) i had flu systems all the time. Not the flu, but a chronic throat infection. Noone freaked. The fact it was ALL the time bother noone but me and was probably more detrimental to my health than I could imgaine. And Idid the antibiotic cycle and all.

Then I took control-who knew a vitamin C complex could cure my problem. The Doctors didn't care, my visits kept them in business. The pharms loved me, always getting a prescription, then needing a new one for yeats, etc...right? Well...

Remember flumist was a multi million (or more) flop and now as of yesterday some insurances are covering it. The flu shiot is not related to he admittd strain going around-yet now the yare sold out...too coincidental for me!
