Flu vax on the local news last night

On our local NBC affiliate, they did a segment on the flu vax last night. Apparently they got the strain wrong AGAIN this year. No surprise. Even the reporter noted that they have gotten the strain wrong 5 out of the last 7 years.

So why exactly are people still getting it?

LOL. I don't know. When I took my 6 month old to his (last and final) wbv, the nurse asked me if he was getting a flu shot. I said no. got a weird look. Then, when ped came in she said "So we can't convince you to get a flu shot?" WTF!?!? They don't even work!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Wrong virus in the flu shot? oh well ... ..... maybe next year... ....we are all sheeple.... : ....we make mistakes....

They are so controlled through fear and/or guilt that they are afraid to look outside their box. It is much easier to just remain one of the herd.

Yay, everyone gets mercury injected into them for a placebo vaccine. I'll stick with rubbing my magical rock that gives me good luck.

Twice in a row. Third time is a charm.

Gotta get that annual mercury supplement.

it hasn't worked for years. i don't know why this would be newsworthy. i guess nbc was low on content.

It was TV news. The channel is NBC 11 in Bay Area California. They might have something about it on their site, but I haven't looked.

I'm glad that I didn't get one this year...the ONLY time I got one was high school and I got VERY sick with everything else that year.

Funny that it's been wrong that often since my DH claims it works for him. Gotta love placebo effect.

Well, somehow they manage to demonstrate that even a bad match has some efficacy. So, how that makes sense, please tell me. I love that it's "just the facts, ma'am" as long as there is any anti-vax instinct, but then random, noncontrolled, clinical observations are totally fine for the pro-vax position.

It doesn't match one of the strains so far, aren't there 2 other strains in the shot? I haven't heard anything about those yet. maybe too early to tell?
It is my impression that it is only a confirmed mismatch on one strain also.
Yes, only one strain and this mismatch is showing up in Canada. the match for the other two are the ones showing up in the US and Britain and the match is supposed to be good.
