Books you don't want to read?

Okay, I don't even have a reasonable explanation to this, and I do want to see the movie (although, I am not expecting anything too outstanding there either).

I don't want to read Marley & Me. I just have no interest in this book, and I don't even know why. I could be judging by the cover, but you should know that growing up, our school library ran out of books about animals that I haven't read. So this is really odd. I just don't think it will hold my interest, kwim? No political agenda here , just a weird vibe.

Anyway, do you have any books you don't want to read?

I don't want to read anything else by Wally Lamb--She's Come Undone was the most disappointing read of my life!

I dont want to read Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer. I read the first three books in the series and have no desire to read that last book.

There are lots of books that dont' interest me, but I don't know the titles. If it doesn't interest me, I'm not likely to remember the names!

There is a section of the book written from his point of view, it's really really funny. You could read just that section.
Although I loved the whole thing, not that it would sway you.

The Mermaid Chair because it got such terrible reviews on Amazon. I did like the Secret Life of Bees, though.

Hee, I just read it and really enjoyed it--much better than the others imho.

Anything by Ann Coulter or that genre on either side of the aisle.

And I cannot seem to read The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I've been told it's good and I should read it, but I can't seem to get past page 35 and the book has over 600 pages.

Lovely Bones and other books by that guy.

I don't like depressing books

My family calls them "ugly cry"

I love, love, love everything else by Kingsolver, fiction and non-fiction, and I just had to put down The Poisonwood Bible - and I almost never put down books. I just couldn't get into it at all...

I love the "ugly cry" description too - very apt!

I think it's a "gal", but you are right on the "ugly cry" bit.

I think it's called The Kite Runner. A while ago I asked on another board for book recommendations (after giving ideas of what kind of books I enjoy) and a few people suggested this. I looked into it and it is just something I don't see myself enjoying.

I had to pick up this up and put it down about a dozen times before I could really get into it. Even then, it was okay from what I remember, but it didn't blow me away.

This one was an 'ugly cry' for sure. Man, it haunted me for weeks! So did the authors other book 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'; I was shell shocked.

For me, I just can't get into the Twilight books. I tried, I need a new obsession right now, but it just didn't grab me.

Just about any "popular" book that people are talking about-Oprah lit, products of the Barnes and Noble-type marketing publishing machine-you know, formula books. They annoy me, and get in the way of my finding truly good books!

Oh, I have to say though, I really don't think that just because a book is UNpopular it is a good book, nor do I think it is a good book just because it's popular. If you can't get into a book - you can't force it, no matter who likes it. I guess for me I feel that every book deserves to be judged on its own, kwim?

I want nothing whatsoever to do with Twilight, it looks asinine!

I loved Marley & Me and I really dislike dogs. I read it while nursing late at night.

I don't do depressing books or cookie cutter romance. I don't mind if it's a great story and has romance as long as someone doesn't die. I like books that are more uplifting and a little humor doesn't hurt. The poeple in my bookclub pick the hardest, most depressing books. I guess that's why I haven't been in a year.

I also don't dismiss a book just because it's popular or because Oprah liked it. I also don't read books that are hard to read (as in intelligence wise). I am a computer programmer, so I think hard all day long. When I read, I don't want to think to much. At least not in this stage of my life.

I personally think no mother should read The Poisonwood Bible. I was scarred for life, and developed a debilitating phobia as a direct result of reading it. That being said, if I weren't such a OCD ninny, and could have skipped the upsetting part, it was a brilliantly-written book, and I think about the good parts of it all the time. Until last week, it was the only Barbara Kingsolver book I'd read, because I held a grudge and boycotted her books. But my girlfriend recommended Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, and I checked it out before I realized the author. That's one of the best books I've read in years. So I'm about ready to forgive her.

I have no desire to ever read a book on Oprah's list. And I'm really mad at her for stealing two of my favorite books of all time, East Of Eden and Pillars Of The Earth. Those are MY books, Oprah, and you and your mindless followers are NOT welcome to them!
