Thank you for saying what I've kept shamefully to myself all these years. I hated those books. Dh is all excited to start reading them to our kids, and I'm like, go on with your bad self but leave me out of it.

: I'm with you on the Tolkien front!

Ohhh, I could never get through The Old Man and the Sea...I tried and I tried but it was SO BORING. I may have to try again.

I hate romances. For that matter, I hate most women's magazines, too. How come things that are specifically for women are usually beyond sappy?

Ugh, Hemingway. ITA. I can't read any of his stuff.

Twilight.

Anything by Ayn Rand, Dan Brown, or in the Twilight or Left Behind series. Thanks for the Eat Pray Love heads up; sounds like it is definitely not something I'd enjoy.

I haven't been able to get through The Fountainhead after several attempts. I have a friend who touts it as the greatest book ever written. I don't see it!

Honestly the only reason I first read Harry Potter was because Alan Rickman plays one of the characters in the movies. : I did enjoy them.

I have always avoided Possession, by A.S. Byatt, but not for any particular reason. I think I might read it one day.
Oh I read that, I think I liked it. It was awhile ago.

Oh, I hate this book. I slogged through Eat, had to finally give up on Pray, and couldn't even make myself try Love past a few pages. I have never met anyone over the age of 14 so thoroughly, endlessly interested in herself. Please, Miss, can we gaze into your navel just a bit more? I'm not sure I've really explored all it's complexities.

It should have been called, "How I Fell Face First In Luck and Rolled Around In It."

I thought I'd give The Road a try, but I couldn't get into the tone of the book and I was scared of what I might burn into my brain if I continued reading because I accidentally read a spoiler on this forum that haunts me. It's so terrible I can't even mention it to anyone else because I couldn't do that to someone.
I bet we read the same spoiler. I just choke when I try to tell someone why I don't want to read this book, and that one little blurb is the ONLY thing I've read about it.

omg this is the most hilarious thing ever. LOVE the alternate title.

I totally agree with NiteNicole about Eat Pray Love. We read it for a book club and omg it was painful to get through. I didn't end up finishing the last 20 pages.

I just don't think it will hold my interest, kwim? No political agenda here , just a weird vibe.
There's a book? I thought it was just a stupid comedy. I must be missing something.

I have no desire to read any of Anne Rice's new "Christian" books.

I started reading it again and I remembered why I liked it.

The language in it is so rich is is like nesting down in luxuriant bedding.

(at your observations, not your situation.)

Be glad you didn't read it-it was drivel, imo.
