I'm planning on eating my placenta and was wondering what Weston Price has/had to say about it, ie. best ways of ingesting, etc. I did a search on the WAPF site and didn't find anything.

TIA!!

maybe you should ferment it :

In all seriousness, I'm planning on freezing mine in small peices and just adding it to smoothies (I've done it with liver and you can't taste it)

But yeah, I figured raw would be best.

I don't remember ever reading anything about placenta eating from WAPF or in what Price himself wrote.

I do know that lotus birth is not a "traditional" practice, in the sense that it would have been dangerous to have a bloody piece of meat hanging around close to a relatively defenseless mother and newborn for days and days. It makes sense that they would have eaten it or buried it.

And you can't get any more "close to original form" than that......

AJP- thanks, I don't really have any of his writings and honestly haven't taken the time to read everything on the web so I wasn't sure if consuming one's placenta had ever been mentioned by him.

Jimibell- I'm not planning on a lotus birth, just consuming my placenta.

no, I know. I was just saying that something had to be done with the placenta to neutralize the potential risk of animals smelling raw bloody meat, so it seemed to me that eating it would have been a good option.

if you don't decide to do raw, consider scrambling it with eggs and sea salt. i really enjoyed it that way. the days i ate it i felt strong and powerful.
just on a tangent, has anyone tinctured their placenta and how did that work out for you?

Figured I'd point out that there are cultures out there where eating placenta is a definite taboo. Islamically, it is not halal to consume it.

Interesting section of the wikipedia placenta article.

i saw some interesting web stuff on why some people consider it kosher though generally humans aren't (kosher). i think it had to do w/ the fact that no animal dies-- it's a meat of life, so to speak. also they talked about breastmilk as being parve-- can have it w/ meat, unlike regular milk-- so that was an argument for eating placenta being okay in kashrut. thanks for posting the wikipedia article, quietserena-- super interesting! i'm tired, hope this all made some sense.
