Changes to MMR with regards to fetal cells

Sorry if this has already been posted somewhere...

I found this article today. It discusses Merck changing to solely aborted fetal cell lines for their new MMR vax. (They are the only company approved to produce it in the US at this time) For those with religious or philisophical objections to the use of vaxes which contain such make up I thought this should be passed along. I know rumors of rumors always run around that vaxes have aborted fetal cells in them and appear in threads from time to time, but apparently this is eyes wide open admittance from Merck.

Merck and other manufacturers who use AFC in their vaccines hardly keep it a secret. It's right on the package inserts and always has been. And a quick Google search will give you more info on where "human diploid cells" come from.

You cannot use this reasoning for religious exemption. Religious exemption pertains to the practice of vaccination, not individual vaccines. Objecting to individual vaccines because of their content is considered philosophical exemption, which is not available in all US states.

I am well aware of what all of those things are, as are most of us who are well versed in why we don't vaccinate, but for lurkers or newbies, I think this important to post. It might begin a person's questioning of vaccine practices when they might otherwise have turned a blind eye. As the article states Merck did offer an alternative until now. And frankly most people just beginning their research or who are ok with vaxing haven't the slightest idea about AFC or vaccine inserts.

As for refusal on religious grounds, I am well aware of that too. We don't vaccinate at all so you're preaching to the choir here. Sorry if I came across as fetal cells being an allowable reason for religious exemption. Don't want to confuse anyone trying to make a decision, BUT as for me and my house part of the reason we religiously object is that we object to use of aborted fetal cells in vaccines. Prior to this change you could at least get your hands on an MMR that was not created this way and that might be a straw on a camels back for some. We homeschool so exemptions really aren't our problem at this point, but even Apologia science touts vaxing as a gift from God. I am hopeful that people of faith who have objections to abortion, or those who are lucky enough to live where philosphical objections are allowed, will read this information.

I agree with you there.
Unfortunately, there are too many stories here of those of us who've made our pro-life friends and family aware of this, only to have them use the vaccines anyway. This seems particularly true with Catholics, given the Church's general position that vaccines are a good/necessary thing and that the "sin of abortion" is so far removed from those who receive the vaccine. :

Just to clarify, there was no alternative to the MMR vaccine.
There were alternatives to the Measles-Rubella vaccines (Attenuvax, measles only) and Mumps-Rubella vaccine (Mumpsvax, mumps only), but none to any combo MMR vaccines since the Rubella component is the one manufactured on AFC and there is no "ethical" version of that particular vaccine.
