Music and children - Page 2

We listen to some music every day, but not constantly. Though I really like the happy background, I read somewhere that little ones need some time that is QUIET- because their little brains are just processing SO much all the time.

I always feel a little bad that we don't listen to more music. What my DD hears tends to be the musical interludes on NPR. It's short but at least it's good stuff.

We do a lot of listening to and making music here. I completely agree with the PPs who mentioned the benefits it has for brain development.

Something I'm also noticing is that by DH and I singing, dancing to the music, it encourages DD to express herself too and not feel self-conscious about letting loose. The biggest thing I want for my children is to grow up confident and comfortable with expressing themselves and I think that leading by example is the best way to do it.

YAY! I teach Pups

We are, obviously, a HUGE music house. I firmly believe that singing to and interacting musically with your child- even if you think you can't sing- is a very important thing.

Well, we're musicians so there's always music to be heard around here! But I listen to just about everything, so while we're in the car they'll hear everything from Bach to Nine Inch Nails. My kids both love music, and love dancing too Henri especially enjoys Alan Jackson's music...(which is great because I : him!)

Our local NPR station is also the local classical music station. Granted its not a great one, but its convenient to put on during the day for background noise. I'm thinking your NPR station might also be the same thing. Leave it on or look it up online and see if they play music. I know our local station broadcasts NPR from about 6am-9am, then its classical music until 4pm and NPR comes on again.

KBAC out of Phoenix, AZ is an AWESOME classical music station, and I think they have a live feed online. (just for a recommendation)

I'm not saying we don't listen to music, but I do try to minimize how much "background music" goes on in our house. For me, it's just not peaceful.
